Living In Questionable Times

To start, I’m going to acknowledge that this might not be for everybody. Not everybody wants to know the truth about everything in our world. This article is for anyone that wants to explore the strange new world of the 21st century. The 21st century, so far, has heralded many events that have made this century the most questionable of times we have lived yet.

From the lighter fare to heavier, more provoking subjects, few things make sense in the modern era. Have you internally said to yourself, “People are losing their minds”? How about the question of, “What the hell is going on”?Are there days you find yourself able to make sense of things that the people with the power to make a difference can’t seem to grasp? Let’s explore that together.

Questions Have Become More Important

In the 21st century, questions are more important than ever. There have been far too many questionable things transpire for us not to be curious, even suspicious. And, when it comes to questions, there is no such thing as a dumb one.

The people asking the most questions will learn more than the rest of us. They are the researchers, scientists, and thinkers of the world. Writers ask a lot of questions. They intend to convey the story and give answers they find to the world.

Ask a question and then seek the answers. Ideally, there should be just one answer to any question. That only happens in a perfectly ideal world. Right?

One way to ask a question is to ask, “Why”? When you ponder the why’s of anything, you start the process of formulating an answer. Freethinkers tend to use why’s in their thought process more than most people do. They won’t gloss over an article or internet story with a title that questions things. They’ll be the most likely to click on the link when it’s a subject of interest and seek out the answer. Formulating an intelligent why question will help get others in your circle, your followers, and the people you influence to think.

From any question that we ask, something may grow. Asking questions is almost fertilizer for the mind. How about a question?

There is a story going around about how the Biden administration asked a court not to release a report on Dominion Voting Systems. What would be the first question? I would ask why. If there’s nothing wrong with the systems, and they are working securely, then why don’t they want the report released?

Why don’t they want the court to release the report? That’s for freethinkers to decide, should they be interested enough to formulate an educated opinion. Outside of those directly involved, it’s likely that nobody can say why they want to halt the report from being released.

What is President Biden going to do if Russia invades Ukraine? It’s a great question. It’s one that we should all be asking.

People may think that this has nothing to do with them, but it’s the leader of our country facing a very challenging decision as a president. We have a lot of names for Joe Biden. Names he earned over a lifetime in politics. So, when and if there’s an invasion of Ukraine by Russia, what will Uncle Joe, Sleepy Joe, Creepy Joe, Pervy Joe, Brandon, or just plain old Joe, do?

We all hope that he’s getting good advice, but at different points in time during his first year as President, Biden’s left us wondering who that might be. When people listened to one of his 2021 speeches, the president’s acknowledgment that he’d been instructed raised questions. Who instructs President Biden to do anything? He’s the commander in chief, the highest authority in government.

The question of who is an important detail. Whether it’s just to educate yourself, bring information together for a story, or enlighten people about something important, details matter. Even if you’re asking questions to entertain your audience, details are important in any story.

What refers to a specific thing and when refers to a specific time frame. What happened? When did that happen? When is that going to happen?

For instance, a planet killer comet is coming toward our solar system. NASA his their watchful eyes on the 85-mile wide comet. If we were to ask questions about this story, they might be such questions as what is NASA saying about the comet? When is it expected to be close to earth? Who found the comet? Where is the comet now? Where will it first appear in the sky? Why does it matter? How big is it?

Those are really good ways to start a discussion about the comet and learn what scientists are saying. What do you think the most important question might be?

How far away will it be from Earth?

Social questions, can be the most intriguing questions of all, but they are important ones to ask? Follow the news media of your choice, but question what you see and hear. After three years of backing those that wanted to “Defund The Police,” house speaker, Nancy Pelosi, recently stated that “Defund the Police,” was not part of the Democratic Platform.

For two years we watched congress turn their backs on the public’s safety and back those that wanted to “defund the police.” So, why now, are they turning their backs on that stance? How has Nancy Pelosi come to such a change? What is prompting that change?

My Conclusion

Asking questions in today's era is more important than ever before because the world is a dumpster fire, and we lack leaders that are willing to forget about their squabbles with each other and do the job they were elected to perform. If we fail to ask questions about the world we live in, then we are doomed to be unaware of the things that are affecting our world, our futures, and the futures of our youth. Thinkers are the ones that will solve the bigger picture issues with their questions that start with “How?”.

Questions like: How do we solve the problems of global warming? How do we continue to feed the population of the planet? How do we strike a more equitable balance between gun rights and gun safety? How do we find a way to get along with the rest of our race and overlook differences that cause conflicts?

I may not be a Woodward or Bernstein but there’s no question I won’t ask, and I’ll share my thoughts, theories, and answers with you…the world.
