TikTok for Writers

How you can make the most of this fast-growing platform

TikTok, whether you have one or not I'm sure you heard of it by now. But if you're an author or a writer looking to sell your books today or someday in the future, this app is not one to sleep on.

Sure it won't be a rags-to-riches story, but you just might sell more copies of your book than you would have without it because, unlike other social media platforms, TikTok's algorithmic way of promoting your videos to readers can't be beaten by Facebook or Instagram without having to shell out hundreds on dollars in advertisements.

As long as you are posting engaging content regularly you'll be able to grow a community with readers and writers alike that only wish for you to succeed.

Not sure of what to post?

Here are a few ideas to get you started if you're looking to join TikTok as a writer or author.

Bite-Sized Writing Tips and Advice

TikTok's format is a great way to deliver bite-sized pieces of information to an audience and sometimes we could all use a little writing advice as long as it is thought-provoking or helpful in some way.

Create short videos sharing your knowledge on aspects of writing such as character development, and plot structure, or helping writers avoid the dreaded writer's block.

These videos are a great way to provide valuable insight to other writers and authors seeking guidance and inspiration.

Showcasing Your Writing Process

TikTok brings your readers behind the scenes in a way that other platforms just aren't able to compete with. Writers can use this platform to showcase parts of their writing process such as drafting, editing, going through the querying process, or even the self-publishing process.

You can use videos like these to help other writers or to show another side of the book process to readers by allowing them to witness the hard work and dedication that goes into your books.

Engaging Storytelling in Short Videos

TikTok's short-form content can give you a chance to experiment with micro-fiction, flash-fiction, or sharing the right snippets of your work to draw in your reader much as you would do with your synopsis or your first page.

This can bring your fiction to new readers who never would have found you otherwise if you hadn't hooked them in with just a glance of your story.

Building a Writing Community

The best part of TikTok in my opinion is the community you grow there. Since day one of joining I have become surrounded and friends with so many writers and readers alike that I never would have gotten the chance to know without it.

TikTok is a great way to build a writing community where you will find support and a group of like-minded writers who will help you succeed, provide necessary feedback, and offer mutual support for all writing endeavors.

It's always been said that your first readers will always be writers and this is true. Writers love to help other writers succeed since it's not a race and there are plenty of readers to go around for everyone.

Inspiration from Writing Prompts

TikTok is a great place to find and give inspiration in the form of writing prompts. There are hundreds of accounts dedicated to posting prompts regularly if not daily.

You never know when you'll need a bit of inspiration and one of these prompts might be just the thing to get you out of a writing slump or give you an idea for your next book.

TikTok has revolutionalized the way writers connect, create, and engage with their audiences.

By embracing TikTok you can grow your writing career to heights you may have only dreamed about.

Give it a chance and find me over there where I give daily updates on my work in progress.

Then get back to writing.
