THE GREAT AMERICAN FUNHOUSE MIRROR

Why We Are All Bleeding Sanity in the High-Velocity Outrage Factory

DATELINE: THE COGNITIVE TRENCHES — MAY 18, 2026

I'd say this is Day 1, but this is a decade of psychological log jams that have built up a dam in me, that now needs to be addressed, and this is my humble attempt.

The Prologue...

this is my attempt at venting my daily, weekly, or just moment to moment frustrations with the highly connected, yet disconnected from reality, sociopolitical nation, and subsequently the World around us. As a retired veteran, who's served this country for 24 years, and now holding down a contracted position as an analyzing consultant for the U.S. Navy's Expeditionary Warfighting Capabilities; I hold a deep sense of patriotic responsibility to the U.S. Constitution. And as a student of history while holding a B.S. in Criminology from the University of LaVerne, I also hold an immense appreciation for our past, and civic struggles that have all contributed to make the United States the Prestigious and Paradoxical nation that she is.

I believe in the Post WWII Western Democratic alliances and the NeoLiberal Economic World Order--in theory it's intentions are beautifully democratic and principled; however, in practice it's been hypocritical demonstrating: cruelty, tyranny, dominations, and all other means of manipulation used for resource mining to satisfy the subjective ends of Empirial colonization and consumption. The United States of America is both the creator of this liberal progressive and Democratic Post WWII International Order, and it's biggest violator. It's something I call the Great American Paradox or the GAP, and it's something we Americans by accident of birth are all participants in... and it's how we reconcile this conflict of virtues with our interests that has created the sociopolitical climate of the nation we all now live in.

This is why I've decided to identify this paradox as the Great American Funhouse. Because we are all indeed flesh and blood humans, living by an innate and immutable LAW--we need the same Land, Air, & Water to survive as a human species; but once inside the funhouse we will be subject to distortions and ultimately different experiences that lead us to subjectively understand the LAW; rather than adhere to it's simple, and honest objectiveness.

This journal is my attempt at maintaining my sanity, through literary venting, and publicly sharing my struggles with this conundrum. it's also a living document, just as we are all alive. It may change, just as I, our country, and the World may as well in between the Prologue and Epilogue of this tome.

America!

We woke up again today in the belly of the Great American Funhouse. You know the feeling. It’s that familiar, metallic taste of low-grade panic that hits you somewhere between your first sip of coffee and your third scroll through the morning headlines.

It is a specific brand of modern madness. We are trapped in a system that has completely unhinged itself from objective reality, yet it manages to construct an environment so profoundly chaotic, so aggressively absurd, inside our workplaces and communities, that simply functioning like a healthy human being feels like an act of high-stakes rebellion.

Welcome to the upside-down. Welcome to the era of mandatory, top-down cognitive defiance.

The Information Highway Has Merged with a Sewage Pipe

Let’s lay out the taxonomy of how we got here, because we need to understand the structural mechanics of the machine that is grinding down our collective headspace. Think of human intelligence not as a static IQ score, but as a highway.

At the baseline, you have the state of being uninformed. That's just a temporary layover—ignorance before education. In a sane world, a person traveling this information highway encounters facts, digests data from experts, and updates their mental software.

But the highway has been hijacked. It was sold off to the algorithmic outrage economy and the high-octane populist think tanks pioneered decades ago by political architects like Paul Weyrich—men who openly admitted that their structural leverage went up when widespread, rational democratic participation went down.

Today, when everyday people navigating severe economic anxiety—spiking utility bills, skyrocketing grocery receipts, and a precarious job market—look for answers on that highway, they aren't met with economic math. They are hit by a firehose of engineered grievance.

And that is where the system performs its ultimate, dark miracle: it transforms baseline confusion into fortified, aggressive Stupidity.

This isn't a lack of brainpower; it’s an active, ideological refusal to learn. It is the moment a political movement explicitly instructs its followers to “disregard the experts” and rely solely on a manufactured brand of “common-sense wisdom.” The moment you accept that your gut feeling or an algorithmic feed is more valid than verified reality, the trap snaps shut. You become an unpaid foot soldier for the very superstructure that is actively squeezing your economic survival.

The Perfect DEI World—For Billionaires and Oligarchs

The supreme irony—the ultimate, stomach-turning joke of the MAGA movement—is that while its foot soldiers launch daily culture wars against the concept of "DEI," the administration itself has built the most aggressive, upside-down Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion program in human history.

Except their version of DEI stands for Deplatforming, Evading, and Insulating.

It is an inclusion program exclusively for corporate deregulation, isolationist tariffs that act as a flat consumption tax on the working class, and deficit-financed tax cuts for the hyper-wealthy. They campaigned on cutting your energy bills by 50% within a year; instead, we are watching residential electricity costs surge across the nation. They campaigned on an isolationist platform of "no more policing the world" and ending wars; instead, direct military escalations in Iran have choked global supply lines and sent gas prices soaring past $4.50 in major regions, fueling a 3.8% year-over-year inflation spike that eats your wages before you can even cash the check.

And how does a government with a complete institutional trifecta of power—controlling the Presidency, the House, and the Senate—govern when their economic theories explode in real-time?

Simple: Total, unadulterated psychological projection.

They don't build. They don't fix infrastructure. They deliver cultural pain as a substitute for material prosperity. When you cannot lower a voter's grocery bill, you have to feed them a steady diet of grievance. You blame a permanent phantom scapegoat. You tell them "Biden broke it," "Obama divided us," or that immigrants and minorities are the sole architects of their economic misery. You strip away civil liberties to give the base the illusion of decisive action.

It is a massive, corporate-backed gaslighting superstructure designed to keep the population trapped in a state of high-velocity emotional noise, ensuring they remain a fiercely loyal political weapon that will passionately defend the very machinery exploiting them.

Surviving the Cubicle War

The real, exhausting tragedy of this circus isn't just watching it play out on cable news; it’s having to operate, function, and earn a livelihood in close, suffocating proximity to the people who buy into the illusion.

It is a brutal psychological tax to sit in a breakroom or a job site, trying to maintain professional boundaries for your economic survival, while enduring the overwhelming rhetoric of coworkers who genuinely believe this structural regression is "American prosperity beyond anything ever achieved." It makes you want to reach across the desk and break the laws of physics—and human HR—just to get a moment of silence.

But crossing the threshold into physical authority is exactly the trap the machine wants you to step into. The moment the fight shifts to raw, physical confrontation, we validate chaos as the supreme arbiter of power. Violence doesn’t reset the truth; it just accelerates the collapse of the social fabric, and on a practical level, it instantly destroys your own leverage, costing you your livelihood and your platform.

The architects of this absurdity want us exhausted, isolated, and reactive. They want us to burn our emotional capital in fruitless, screaming matches with people who have consciously closed their minds to objective reality.

Don't give them your energy. It is a finite resource.

Our real leverage doesn't come from matching their noise; it comes from an unyielding, radical adherence to structural sanity. Treat the rhetoric as ambient friction—like bad weather or radio static. Build rigid psychological boundaries. Preserve your authentic energy for the spaces, the alternative media networks, the writing, and the community organizing that actually build long-term leverage and drive a counter-narrative.

We are living through a massive historical fever, but fevers eventually break. Until then, keep your head clear, document the math, protect your peace, and refuse to let the funhouse mirror distort your sense of what is real.
