Settling into wise maturity
When I sit down and think about how many years I've lived to remember sometimes it's shocking to me. Some memories were so profound that the year when they occurred is bold in my mind. 1983, moving to Florida. 1989, graduating from high school. 1993, the year my grandmother died. 1995, my trip to England. 1997, the year my son was born. 2001, the year I graduated from college. 2005, the year I signed the adoption papers that gave my son another set of parents. 2008, the year I was awarded social security disability benefits. 2011, the year I got married. 2012, the year my mother passed away. 2018, the year I became a felon and went to jail for the first time. 2023, the year I signed divorce papers. Today is September 2nd, 2024, Labor Day. I'm sitting here in front of my laptop writing this and wondering at the age of 53, what haven't I done yet that I can still do? The truth is there isn't much and each day that I wake up again to live is more shocking than it ever was. I remember 1990 like it was yesterday. I remember thinking I would never live to see the year 2000, but I did live to see it, and now that was 24 years ago.

Coincidence? or Fate?
Life has taken an unexpected turn these last few months, but for the first time since I can remember it's a good turn. Several years ago my husband and I moved cross country together for the first time in our 10+ year relationship/marriage and - to put it mildly - it was a total fiasco. Before I get into the specifics, I first need to provide some background....

My 300th Story. Top Story - September 2024.
Wow...My 300th story. I cannot believe that I have been writing on Vocal for almost four years now. The amount of growth that I have gone through as a person since I first started writing on this platform is insane to me. I don't resonate with a lot of my writing anymore as I am not the same person that I was back then when I first started publishing online. I joined Vocal for the challenges, and yes I may never win one, but I am still very proud of myself for trying anyways.

Toxic Positivity
Greetings All! It's been a while since I've done one of these personal journal entries and I felt like doing one on a subject that's very important to me, and one that I feel many people don't really understand. I think I'll start this story talking about the movie "Inside Out" I'm going to assume most of you have seen it, though if you haven't it's a good representation of what I'm talking about. A big plot point in that movie is about how Joy wants to make Riley happy and thinks that her being happy will somehow fix what's wrong with her. One of the big moments in that movie is when she finally allows Sadness to take control of the console, realizing that she's the only one who can help Riley by allowing her to finally express what she's feeling. It's a good lesson about how sometimes we need to actually talk about what's bothering us, and not just pretend that everything is fine. For me the most basic definition of "Toxic Positivity" is trying to force someone to be happy when they don't actually feel happy. This topic is related to the whole "bottling up your emotions" that is present in society and especially directed towards men.

Singapore to Introduce Law Allowing Police to Restrict Banking Transactions in Scam Cases
e In response to a surge in scam cases where victims voluntarily transfer money to fraudsters, Singapore's Ministry of Home Affairs announced plans to introduce a new law that will give the police the authority to temporarily restrict the banking transactions of individuals suspected of being targeted by scams. The proposed legislation is expected to be tabled in the coming months and is part of a broader strategy to enhance the country’s defences against the ever-evolving threat of financial scams.
