Why Your Black Business "Won't Survive"
Context As I write this piece, I reflect on what brought me to the south. I lived a privileged life in California, situated in the mecca of diversity, the San Francisco Bay Area. And we can say I still live that privileged life, seeing as I can go back anytime that I want to. I was well aware of the evils of poverty and de facto segregation that lends itself to the narrative “separate but never equal.” I knew the history of internment camps in the peninsula and race riots and the establishment of the Black Panthers in the east bay. Growing up we learned about the racist Jim Crow like laws forced upon the Chinese, and we learned about the Chicano movements of Southern California. I was surrounded by whites, Asians, Hispanics, Pacific Islanders, few blacks, and an increasing population of Middle Easterners. And I got to be at the center of the Pride movement every single year. And I grew up with the notion that the south was evil, racist, and not somewhere I wanted to go.

Country Scented Candles
My name is Monika. I'm a stay-at-home mama who lives in Kansas. I have this at-home job to help bring in some extra income and keep me busy while my kids are at school until they get home! :) I got into selling candles because I myself LOVE candles or anything that smells good, and I'm more than sure a lot of others do too! The smell of them is so amazing, certain oils you get can be so calming. Soooo here we go!!!

I Started a Business and It Was Surprisingly Easy
I think almost everyone dreams of doing something big with themselves or by themselves (to a degree) as they grow up. "I'm going to open my own gym." "I want to run my own restaurant." "I'm going to become a dental floss tycoon." You know, the usual hopeful successes. What I've felt is that most everyone uses it as a mental escape from their current situation. In my own analytics (from nowhere except the randomization of my thought process), about 70% of these are pipe dreams. People want it, but they don't really plan on going for it. So what's interesting is that I never once in my life thought to myself, "I'm going to partner up with someone and start a Motorsports Marketing business." Yet it happened.

How Did I Get Here?
How did I get here? A woman of 27, a mum to three beautiful children and partner to one adoring man. The same time every year there is an urge for change bubbling away in the depths of my soul, something needing to be tweaked at, changed, even. Never feeling satisfied with just how far I have come on this journey called life. Living my life, always chasing after my next move; could this be the next big thing for me? Could this be the one that makes me successful? I'm like a donkey chasing a carrot that's being held in front of its face on a string.
