Affects of Social Medial On A String. How does it make you feel?

Hello,

Before I begin I wanted to share with you the image I posted. This image is you based off your emotions affected by Social Media. How does it make you feel? If you pull the strings it makes you feel like you're frustrated or upset by something on Social Media. Or if you leave the strings alone, it makes you feel good by Social Media. Which one are you?

-ARTICLE-

I wanted to write an article about mental health with social media and how I feel like it affects us. Keep in mind I wanted to write to take things off of my mind, these are just my thoughts and they are not targeted towards anyone. Please be respectful about what I write. I will be venting...

At the moment while I was thinking out loud while writing this article I have lots of thoughts, like how powerful your brain is. Your brain is overworked on a daily basis, you stress yourself out over social media and other matters in your daily life. You obsess over what's going on in the social media world and you let it control your life. Social media is like a God where it's an addition where you cannot get away from it. Literally people cannot get off their phones in public, so they do not pay attention to what's going on, so they mindlessly walk without paying to where they're going and they don't care enough to have proper social etiquette to get out of someone's way, while they are on their phones. People could care less about what's in front of them so they stare at their phones. YOUR LIFE IS NOT YOUR PHONE!

Next, Social Media can be extremely toxic and can leave you lonely, depressed, stressed out and at times, it can make you go crazy with anxiety. It controls our minds and everyone goes completely crazy over posts, comments, hateful comments, comparing ourselves to others. You want to feel loved with all the likes and comments.

It drains us, and believe it or not it affects us mentally. It also takes away our freedom, where we forget about how to be social in person, and makes us become extremely lonely. We crave in person friendships not based off of social media (anything superficial) or glued to their phones. It's hard to socialize with someone who is constantly on their phones. It makes us feel lonely, like we aren't valuable or good enough for their company.

When I was younger, my Dad told me not to have a phone at the table during my teen years, and at the time I was upset then realized as I have gotten older, I knew he was right. Being in the moment without a phone and being around family or friends is so much better than staring at our phones. You enjoy conversations with family over a phone. You have that in person interaction which makes it so special versus being glued to social media.

Next, I took a week off of social media and I found myself more productive. I wasn't comparing myself to others, I wasn't stressing over hateful people bullying me through redundant comments and they seemed so miserable behind a screen while they bash you. It hurts. They don't even know you, so they think it's okay to bully you over something SO PETTY. Indeed, you want to defend yourself BUT people insist on bullying you over minor things. Sad thing is, adults can't be mature enough to let those things GO, so they continue to bash you and it doesn't matter what the topic is. They always want to get the last word in and say incredibly hateful things. Also, there are a lot of close minded people or people may not have the same beliefs as you. God forbid you to have your own state of mind along with your personal beliefs. Sometimes it's better to keep a lot of things to yourself.

If you took sometime off of social media, you may find yourself happier and more productive. In person friendships are extremely valuable. Social Media is the moral decay of our world but then again maybe we're just lonely for healthy friendships.

On the other hand, it has benefits like finding out about new TV shows, movies, events in your area or around the world. You can message people, you can make plans, you can meet healthy people who do not make you feel awful about yourself. Also, you can find people who you admire on Social Media.

Don't get me wrong there are some great things on Social Media that can contribute to your happiness. For instance, you may follow a page for your hobbies, find new interests, find a page that cheers you up or makes you laugh- like a fun meme page or an animal page. Whatever makes you happy on there is all that matters.

Lastly, cheers to the kind people out there, we need more of you in this Social Media world as well as the REAL world. Your kindness goes a long way without realizing it. Your kindness can make a person's day bright and sunny. Which is what we all need in today's world.
