Queen Elizabeth II, the first child of the Duke and Duchess of York, was born on April 21, 1926, in London, England. Elizabeth Alexandra Mary was her name.

Her father succeeded her uncle, King Edward VIII, who abdicated the kingdom in 1936. Elizabeth was now considered to be the king's likely heir. Elizabeth completed a conventional education that included lessons in political history and law as well as driving and first aid courses.

She wed Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, in 1947, and the couple went on to have four kids: Charles, Anne, Andrew, and Edward. Elizabeth became queen at the age of 25 after the passing of her father in 1952. The day of her crowning was June 2, 1953.

Queen Elizabeth II has worked to modernize and open up the monarchy to the people throughout her reign. She has met with leaders from all over the globe during her numerous state visits.
