Networking acts as a catalyst in your career and takes it to the next level. Giving your best to your job is essential for your growth. But if you want to take it one level up, then you must build a strong professional network.

Your network can bring opportunities that you never thought about.

What is Networking?

Networking means meeting new people in your industry and profession and people who share the same interest as you. These individuals share information and new ideas among themselves to stay up to date and solve each other’s problems when needed.

People in a network share information about potential clients and give referrals.

Power of Networking

Interacting with people in your network opens the door to new ideas and knowledge. You are more likely to learn about new positions in your company.

When you have a strong professional connection with people then, they are more likely to refer you to their connections. Networking has an important role in your career development.

Besides referrals, networking has many other benefits as well.

  • Networking enables the exchange of ideas. You learn new techniques that help you to stand out among others. When you are stuck on your project, a discussion with your connection can help solve the problem and motivate you.

  • Networking makes you more confident. If you are an introvert, you will find it difficult to network. But once you take that step, it will boost your confidence.

Tips to Build Your Network

1. Know Your Goals

The first and most important tip to building a network is to set goals that you want to achieve by networking. This will help you to make connections with people who will get you closer to your goals.

2. Connect with the Right People

Once you have set your goals, which can be getting a new client or moving to a better position, now make connections with the right people. It’s not about the number of people you connect with. It’s about making strong connections with the right people and remaining engaged.

For example, If you are seeking a scholarship to move abroad for higher studies, so it’s better to connect with people that know about scholarships.

3. Give and Take

In order to make a strong connection, try to help first and provide value before asking for any help. Don’t just think about yourself. The more you help and provide value to others, the more they will help you when you need it.

4. Attend Events

Try to attend networking events. It is a good way to meet new people. Try to engage with them and talk about common grounds. Print business cards with your name and contact information and give them to people to let them contact you after the event. Wear a shirt with information regarding your services printed on it so that people know what you do.

5. Stay in Contact

After you have made a new connection then, try to follow up with them. Remain in touch and keep exchanging ideas. Whenever your connection asks for your help, try to help them if possible.

One of the best ways to remain engaged is to keep sharing relevant information with your connections that will interest them. Whenever you read an article that you think will help someone in your connection, then share it with them. Share new opportunities with your connections.

The Internet has made it easy to connect with new people. You can reach millions of people on different social media channels. One of the best social media platforms to build a network is Linkedin.

Join LinkedIn and optimize your profile. Build a solid online presence and include information related to your profession, interests, and experience to attract the right people.
