My NaNoWriMo!

And My Writing Goals

Yes, it is upon us. National Novel Writing Month, or NaNoWriMo for short. It is the bread and butter for novel writers or any writer. I don't know how or when it started, but it's a national competition-like event.

And this year will be the first time that I will be participating. But not in the way you might be thinking.

The standard goal for this event is to write fifty-thousand words in one month, which is the typical word count for a novel. Yet, this generally works better for writers who already have a novel planned.

So, my goals will be different.

As of late, I've been struggling with having ideas and having the motivation to write, which you can read about in my post, Why Take a Break from Writing.

Luckily for me, my mojo is coming back just in time for NaNoWriMo. And I have several goals I plan to fulfill (rubs hands together while smiling).

The first one is to finish and publish, if possible, the fourth book of my self-published urban/paranormal fantasy series on Amazon, Angelic Entourage.

I have slowed down on writing for it because, for one, I've been focusing on my business, and for another, I've been having fun creating posts and stories on Vocal and then posting them on Medium.

And while I have no regrets since it has made me a better writer, my series deserves more of my attention. I've had this series in my head for over five years and need to release it into the world.

The second small goal I have is to, after having been stuck on it for about two months, finish up my Shadow Academy book, as it's only book one for a series that I also plan to self-publish on Amazon.

Vocal is a great avenue to publish installments of a book, and I wanted to know what people thought about it, which was a major reason why I joined almost a year ago.

And I'm not the only creator here to do this. I've seen a few like mine, and the Fiction community even has a category for series on Vocal. And it has at least one tag on Medium since the platform has umpteen tags for different categories, and you can make new ones.

So if you were thinking about starting one, go for it.

But, as for me, I can't just continue the book forever. It needs a good ending, and I have other ideas to write and share with you, my fellow writers.

My third writing goal for NaNoWriMo is to continue the blog on my website, probably the most challenging one. Coming up with posts about editing topics is a lot harder than you might think.

I won't let it stop me, though. I plan to write at least two blog posts, hopefully more, but I'm trying to be realistic with this one. But if you want to read those, you'll either have to go to my site or my Medium page.

Their word counts aren't long enough for Vocal.

And my fourth goal is to create my second publication on Medium for my blog posts to reach more people. Medium has become a central platform for sharing stories from different places since I can easily import links.

My other publication on Medium is called A Writer's Tips and Tricks if you want to check it out.

If you're wondering if I have a word count I want to meet, the answer is no. I'm not creating a novel in November, so I don't find the fifty-thousand-word goal relevant to me. Although, I'm not going to lie, it would be awesome to hit the fifty-thousand-word count, but we'll see.

My NaNoWriMo is more about me completing stories and creating new content, which is the fundamental goal for any writer.

But whatever goal or goals you have for this National Novel Writing Month, I hope you reach and maybe exceed them. Now go and write!

Thank you for the read! I hope you enjoyed it. Likes, shares, tips, and subscriptions are always loved.
