Who is she?

You know when you're scrolling through the internet, you see something that you think of course cannot be, click on said thing, and then it actually turns out to be... that is how I felt when I was scrolling through a Google search and saw a question.

So, after searching for a specific keyword on Google, I was scrolling when I saw this question under the "People also ask" section of Google.

Now for those who don't know, the "People also ask" section of Google is the part of Google where frequently asked questions related to your Google search are displayed. When you click the arrow on any of the questions, you are given a quick short answer to your question.

So, for example, let's say I was scrolling through a search and saw a question like "Does Beyonce have a sister?", when I click on the question, it will show me a quick answer. Here, it will show me that Beyonce does have a sister thus:

So, when I saw the question, "Who is the woman that is richer than Dangote?", I thought to myself, there is nobody, man or woman, in Nigeria that is richer than Dangote. Surely, that's what this Google result will tell me.

But alas, dear ladies and gentlemen, that is NOT what Google told me. I clicked on that answer and Google pointed me to a person and their Wikipedia page, and indeed it was a woman and a Nigerian woman just like the title of this article suggests.

Are you ready to see who it is? Then let's go!

Who Was The Woman Google Said?

Okay are you ready?

When I clicked on the question to reveal the answer, the result was, *drumroll please*:

Folorunsho Alakija

Google says that this woman, Folorunsho Alakija is the woman that is richer than Dangote.

Now if you're an avid follower of my page (thank you btw for those of you who are my loyal readers), then you'll know I've talked with you about Folorunsho Alakija before. She is the 69 Yr Old Nigerian Apostle With the Most Expensive House in Africa I told you about 4 months ago.

Remember then, I told you a couple of things about Folorunsho Alakija. I told you that she was born the 8th child into the family of Chief L.A. Ogbara, a man that had 52 children through 8 wives. I told you that she was born in Ikorodu, Lagos State, went to nursery school in Our Ladies of Apostles, Lagos from 1955 – 1958 before travelling to the United Kingdom at the age of 7 years to continue her education. She eventually came back to Nigeria to start her career.

I told you that she got the majority of her money through oil. I told you that in May of 1993, Folorunsho applied for the allocation of an oil prospecting license (basically, a license to explore for oil) for her company, Famfa Limited. This license was given to her and her company started exploring for oil on a 617-000 acre block southeast of Lagos offshore of Nigeria in the Agbami Field of the Central Niger Delta.

3 years later in 1996, she partnered with Star Deep Water Petroleum Limited, a subsidiary of Texaco, and appointed the company as a technical adviser for the exploration transferring 40% of her 100% stake to Star Deep. Then – they struck oil!

Once the word got out that Alakija and her team had struck oil, the Nigerian government came and snatched a 40% stake. Later, they took an additional 10%. For twelve years, she fought the government in court but the government argued that if Alakija and her family were allowed to keep their bloc, they stood to make – get this - $10,000,000 A DAY.

Alakija persisted and guess what? She won!

So $10,000,000 a day every day…Alakija quickly became a billionaire business tycoon and has since been listed among Forbes’ Most Powerful Women in the World.

So, we know that Folorunsho Alakija has A LOT of money. We know that she is INSANELY RICH! But the big question we want to know today is:

Is Folorunsho Alakija Really Richer Than Dangote?

Well, to answer that question, we need not look further than this year's Forbes Billionaires List.

When you click on that article, the opening text says it all.

So, this year in 2021, Aliko Dangote is still the richest person in Africa, and there are no women on this year's list.

So what happened to Folorunsho? Well, Forbes explains. The article writes:

The only two women billionaires from Africa recorded in previous years’ lists, have both fallen off. They are Folorunsho Alakija and Isabel dos Santos.

Kerry A Dolan of Forbes writes: “Forbes calculates that the fortune of Folorunsho Alakija of Nigeria, who owns an oil exploration company, dropped below $1 billion due to lower oil prices."

So because of lower oil prices, Folorunsho Alakija was knocked out of the Forbes list.

It doesn't mean she still doesn't have a crazy amount of money, she certainly does! She's just no longer on this year's Billionaires List and as such not richer than Dangote.

So Google, get your story straight!

Either way, billionaire or no billionaire on Forbes List, Folorunsho Alakija is still living well and she is THRI-VING!

That's All.
