How to Write Like No One Is Reading

Embracing Authenticity and Creative Freedom

Writing for some of us is how we express ourselves, how we open our souls and place our bleeding hearts upon the page, and because of this it can be hard for some of us to share our writing with the world. Or even worse - we hold ourselves back from writing what we really want to because of self-doubt, fear of judgment, and the pressure of conforming to expectations.

I'm sure you've at one point heard the phrase to dance like no one is watching well this article is about how to write like no one is reading because the most important audience for our work truly is ourselves.

Embrace Your Unique Voice

One of the most important aspects of writing is embracing the uniqueness of your writer's voice. It's what sets you apart from other writers and brings your life from your mind to the page. You shouldn't be afraid to let whatever part of you that wants to express itself come out. Don't hold back who you are or your personality in fear of what others may think. Your voice, your quirks, and your style make you authentic and that's exactly what your readers want from you.

Release Fear and Self Doubt

Fear and self-doubt can cripple your writing process before it has even begun. When you bring yourself to a blank page there's nothing to fear because after you've written what it is you need to say or the story you need to tell, you don't have to share it.

Writing is more than giving pieces of ourselves to the world, we are allowed to keep notebooks filled with our souls hidden under our mattresses if we choose. Your fear should never stop you from writing and being who are and as long as you know that you are capable of putting words on the page there is truly no reason to doubt yourself.

Write From the Heart

When you write you are giving a piece of yourself to the page, it may live there forever or it may only be for a moment, but there's no reason not to give it as much of yourself as you can spare.

We all still have those parts of us that are too dark even for a notebook locked securely in a vault and it's ok if you're not ready to share that with anyone.

Let your innermost thoughts, your feelings, and your experiences drive and guide your writing.

This allows you to create works that are sincere, impactful, and authentic. Don't be afraid to dive into your own venerability because chances are there's a reader out there that has been through the same, but unlike you, they're not a writer and they've waited their whole life to find something that connects to the vulnerabilities in them they haven't been able to put into words.

Focus on the Process, Not the Outcome

In a world obsessed with metrics and external validation, it's easy to get caught up in the race of completion and the need for recognition and success, but if you think back to the writers of the past there are many stories we cherish today that weren't read until long after the writer was no longer.

When you write like no one is reading you shift your focus from getting the story written to embracing the joy of writing for what it is.

Navigate your creative journey with curiosity, self-discovery, and exploration without being set on external rewards.

---

If the fear of readers converging on your words with devious reasons and judgment is stopping you from writing the best thing to do is to write for yourself regardless of how you think anyone else is going to feel about it.

You're writing is by extension a piece of you and it can be terrifying to put that out in the world for censure, but as long as what you've written has allowed you the freedom of self-expression in some way those who can connect with it will thank you for it.

Now go on and write like no one is going to read it - and then share it with the world because you deserve to be heard.

With love,

B. King xo xo
