Instead of relying on some elusive algorithm

As writers one of our ultimate goals is to put our work into the hands of those around the world that will have an appreciation for it, however, this can seem like a daunting task.

Just how are we supposed to put our work into the hands of readers? Can we just walk up to someone on the street and put our book into a stranger's hands and then run away?

Well of course you can - but it'll most likely end up tossed into the nearest trash bin if you do.

So here are a few other more effective ways to have your work read by strangers.

Write Something Worth Reading

I know this one may come off as being a bit harsh, but it's true.

If you have a blog that's just about what you did every day, woke up, showered, brushed teeth, ate breakfast, walked to the store -

nobody is going to read this, so save it for the pages of your diary.

Would you read this if you had scrolled by?

Have your work be dramatic and something that will capture your intended reader's attention from the start so that once they get a glimpse of it they'll want to read more.

Self-Promotion

There are a few ways you could have found this article you are currently reading. You may have seen my link on Twitter, my pin on Pinterest, or you came from one of my connected blog posts.

I didn't just write this and stick it out there and hope the person it would help would stumble across it, I did my best to put it out and front of them so they would see it.

Being a writer is more than just writing, you have to put yourself and your work out there where people can see it like a billboard. Be active on social media or in groups where those who you want to read your work will be able to find it.

Find A Writing Comunity

Your first readers are going to be writers. (and your mom)

You will never find a community so engaging or supportive as the writing community because it wants nothing more than to see each of its members succeed.

There's never been gatekeeping to be found on where and how someone got the tools to get their work published or seen and if you're in a writing group that has any of that - leave. There are plenty of them out there that will take you into their open arms and show you what being loved and supported is really like.

Writing groups are an amazing place to share your work and to connect with other writers that will gladly read what you have as long as you show them the same common courtesy.

Having strangers read your work can be kind of scary at first, but the more you do it, the more you put yourself out there and receive feedback, you'll do nothing but grow.

Now get to writing and get to promoting that writing so I can read it.

With love,
