After spending as much as 8 to 12 hours a day working closely with a group of people in the office, trapped, as a slave to the grind, it's natural to eventually start to look around and enjoy the scenery. When you've enjoyed the scenery enough, looking turns to lusting, lusting turns to flirting and eventually can turn into sleeping with a co-worker. Besides all of the other things that can go wrong, getting caught, fired, and sued if there's any misinterpretation of the situation, there are the inevitable effects it'll have on your life should anyone other than you and your prospective partner know what's going on. Secrets are hard to keep in the workplace, especially if there are boring drones running around, as people tend to gossip. Before you engage in extracurricular fun at work, know the law.

Sexual Harassment

It is unlawful to harass a person because of that person's sex. Harassment can include "sexual harassment" or unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other forms of harassment of a verbal or physical nature.

Harassment doesn't have to be sexual in nature. It can include just offensive remarks about a person's sex, including unwanted flirtatious comments. It is against the law to harass a woman by making offensive comments about women in general. This also includes "locker room" chatter about sexual escapades. Overtly speaking to your buddy about your weekend tryst while there's another person in the room can lead to a justified complaint of sexual harassment.

While the law doesn't ban simple teasing, off-the-cuff remarks, or the occasional isolated incident that's not overly serious, harassment is illegal when it is so frequent or severe that it creates a hostile or offensive work environment. Harassment that results in an adverse employment decision, such as the victim being demoted or fired, is the metaphorical landmine in the office and should be avoided.

Harassers may be the victim's supervisor, a supervisor in another area, a c0-worker, or someone who is not an employee of the employer. These can be clients, customers, contractors, and vendors.

Supervisors And Sexual Harassment

Supervisors have a particular level of responsibility when it comes to sexual harassment and enforcing policies. Sometimes this is a murky area. While the victim of the harassment can become unclear, imagine for a minute that the supervisor is being sexually harassed, finds it flattering or not a big deal, but a witness of said harassment finds it to be offensive. Supervisors are people and some can have tight relationships with their employees, or other people in the business environment, but have to maintain a higher degree of professionalism to avoid the pitfalls of sexual harassment issues.

Remembering your employer or company's policies on employee fraternization, employee relations in the workplace, and sexual harassment can mean the difference between life as you know it and the unemployment line. So, if you're looking for a little workplace action, be smart about it.

Sex In The Office

Depending on where you work, there are usually offices and meeting rooms. Private offices will be less likely to have cameras and conference rooms come with privacy if you're meeting someone from a different part of the building. If you're a boss or a superior, your company or employer policies probably preclude you from committing to a fling at work. It doesn't mean it's not doable, it just has to be in your office and she or he better be trustworthy. Scope out both options and see what suits you best, then go for it, but be careful. Remember the headache former President Clinton had over his office tryst.

Open Areas Of Your Building

In 1995, as a much younger man, I took a job working at a local hospital as a security officer. It was an interesting job and taught me a lot about sexual harassment, workplace romances, and the weird things people do when it comes to a little action. Much like the show General Hospital, this place was an entertaining and complicated place to work. One of the things I learned from experience, is that people will have sex anywhere they can, and under any circumstances they can find it if they're lonely, needing affection, or just want to spice up their lives. When an entire unit was being remodeled on the second floor, one long summer night on the third shift led to a call to a suspicious noise from a room on that floor. What we found were two of the female staff enjoying each other for lunch.

Empty rooms, closed sections of the buildings, the rear end of the building, the back of an ambulance, private offices, the couch in the laboratory break room, and in the back of a mustang convertible, there was always someone working too many shifts and desperate to find some at work action. It would have been a great place for a single, decent-shaped, and decent-looking, security guard to saddle in and enjoy the ride.

Consider Job Types

What you do is just as important as how you find that action you are looking for and a few jobs have an advantage. Private businessmen, even small business owners, have the run of the establishments. But, even large-scale businesses like Walmart have places to, shall we say, get it on. Take, for example, the warehouse area. There's plenty of space in the large warehouse areas of a discount store. In the 90s before becoming a security guard, I spent a brief time at one such establishment. One of our employees and a female employee were inventive enough to build their own little den with a batch of boxes built below a shelf and some bedding from the store. If it hadn't been the daughter of a local politician there might have been a firing or two considering the store manager was the one that found them.

Police personnel have a long and storied history when it comes to divorce and adultery. The combination of long hours, little time with loved ones, constantly being on the job whether your off or not, and the lifestyle change makes them susceptible to taking risks. Besides, they're always taking risks and it's been said a million times, women love a man in uniform. Their car is their office and they can take it everywhere with them, including to "hookups" with prospective partners. By the time I worked in law enforcement, there were a few ladies I wouldn't have said no to but I was single.

This mentality exists in the emergency services fields. Police, fire, medical, and their support fields are all the same way. Perhaps the most notorious is the elected officials, States Attorneys, Senators, Congressmen, and Judges. Each of these careers has people that take an oath and yet, they are all more committed to finding their next adventure or their next orgasm. It's because we are, instinctively, sexual people. Be fruitful and prosper, as they say, means to get some action, after all.

Sex At Restaurants

Considering the number of young people that work in the fast-food and restaurant industries, sex at a restaurant is as foregone a conclusion as stories of tampered food being true. It doesn't take much to be a busboy or waitress.

I don't know if it ever gets as bad as the movie waiting, particularly from this scene, but I had a boss once that popped out of a bathroom doing the batwing. In the movie waiting, the writers basically confirm all the horror stories we've all heard. Now, consider all of the typical sexual encounters occurring in the kitchens, broom closets, pantries, and walk-in coolers. Tightly knit groups would certainly cover for their friends in an environment like the Applebees kitchen, and some of them are rather attractive so who could blame them for getting little action at work. However, there are a couple of local joints where I live that I actively avoid due to the long-standing rumor about masturbating in the pizza sauces.

Sex in the workplace is as natural as sex anywhere else. Well, that's a true statement ninety-five percent of the time. There are those places that it's probably not just a bad idea but in particularly poor taste. The cemeteries have always been a hotbed for sexual activity. People are just drawn to the macabre and there's little more chilling than the idea to do it in a place where everyone's dead. Perhaps the only thing worse than the cemetery might be the actual funeral home. But, those are stories that are better left alone.

Work From Home Employees

While this may be the safest sex at work story you'd find, the idea of sex while working from home does have its' issues. If you're married and looking elsewhere, good luck with finding it from your home office. Further, if your spouse catches you... This is overall just a bad idea all the way around. For you happily married types, this might be a great way to spice up the love life. Having your spouse come in and take some dictation, or perhaps your roleplaying ideas come alive at the thought of one of you playing the part of the president and the other the naughty intern. Either way, if the significant others' game and your webcam is off, go for it. Just try to get a little work done.
