Relief Comes in More than One Way

The Mission of Samaritan's Purse International Relief

An organization rooted in North Carolina has started to make a big impact on the communities around them. Samaritan's Purse International Relief was founded by Bob Pierce in 1970. After meeting Korean children that were in need, he began Samaritan's Purse International Relief with the intensions to use the organization to assist people in crisis situations.

Pierce wanted to lead this organization in a faith-based way to help others when they were in need. Eight years after founding Samaritan's Purse International Relief, Pierce passed away from leukemia, but the mission of the organization that he founded continued on. Today, Samaritan's Purse International Relief has offices worldwide, and they are still embracing the same mission, the opportunity to assist others and change their lives.

One mission that Samaritan's Purse International Relief embraces is The Greatest Journey. This program assists children in faith-based education and goes hand-in-hand with their other program Operation Christmas. Another mission that this organization commits itself to is the Children's Heart Program. This program helps children that have heart disease find medical care. Samaritan's Purse International Relief also helps with disaster assistance.

In fact, Samaritan's Purse International Relief is currently using its efforts to collect donations and find volunteers to help with Hurricane Ida rebuilding projects and the current devastation in the six states that were just hit by the December tornado. If you would like to check out the volunteer opportunities that are currently open or make a donation to support Samaritan's Purse International Relief, feel free to check out their website.

Bringing Assistance to a Global Level

The Global Empowerment Mission and Their Focus on Bringing Supplies to Mayfield

Disasters can happen anywhere on the globe, and seeing this, Michael Capponi decided in 2011 that it was time to do something about it. Therefore, he founded the Global Empowerment Mission with the intention that the organization would be able to help those that were affected by disasters on a higher level.

The Global Empowerment Mission has assisted with 295 missions all over the world. They currently have a mission to distribute family necessity kits to the homeless population in New York City to assist them during the holidays. They also have assisted Haiti with their hurricane relief efforts by bringing supplies into the country. Now, the Global Empowerment Mission has taken on its latest job, assisting those in Mayfield, Kentucky that was affected by the tornado that touched down and left many families broken right before the holidays.

The Global Empowerment Mission Bstrong is partnering with the Louisville City Football Club, Racing Louisville Football Club, Aerial Recovery Group, Good360, Goya, and the UC Group to bring trucks full of supplies to those in Mayfield that are in need. These groups will mobilize semi-trucks to transport these goods in hope that it will help some of the families that have been left without the things that they need. Currently, they have one full-sized semi in transit and three trucks total that have committed to assisting with the supply run to the area. There have also been $425,000 worth of supplies collected at this time.

If you would like to assist with this mission or learn more about the Global Empowerment Mission, feel free to check out their website.

Feeding Those Affected by the Mayfield Tornado

Mercy Chefs Mission to Assist Mayfield with Hunger

Mercy Chefs is a non-profit organization that dedicates its time and services to assisting those that are in need. They do this by preparing food for people that are affected by disasters and national emergencies. This service is very helpful for people in this situation as at times their houses may have extreme damage, which can make it nearly impossible to cook a meal, and this also might mean that all of the groceries that they had are unusable.

Mercy Chefs has both mobile and community kitchens, making it possible for them to travel to affected areas to offer a helping hand. This organization also has delivered several meals in response to food insecurity that some face in this country and has hosted cooking classes for single parents along with creating budget recipes.

Ann LeBlanc is the co-founder of this organization and the inspiration behind the community kitchen program. Mercy Chefs has been around since 2019, creating its first community kitchen in Portsmouth, Virginia. Since its launch, Mercy Chefs has expanded to other locations around the country, doing its best to meet the needs of people that are suffering from food insecurity.

Currently, Mercy Chefs has decided to deploy some of its volunteers down to Mayfield, Kentucky to assist the disaster victims that were affected by the horrible tornado that hit the town. Mercy Chefs offers several ways to help out. They allow people to make a donation on their website, and they are also actively recruiting volunteers. If you would like more information on Mercy Chefs or their mission, feel free to check out their website.
