We all want our site to be ranked top in the search engine. And more than that we want it to hold its ranking as long as possible. Even if it falls in the ranking for a while we still give it our to get it back and try to reach even higher. So, how do we do this?

The answer is SEO or Search Engine Optimization. As the name suggests it prep work we do to make our website presentable to the search engines. So, when they crawl our site they take a liking to it and give it high ranks.

Here’s the thing it’s not some magic spell that if you use it your site will rank at the top overnight. There is a lot of hard work and patience behind it. And more importantly, it’s an ongoing process. So you can’t just leave it to fate once your site gains a ranking. You must monitor it and make periodic updates when necessary.

So how do you do SEO? Well, first of all, it’s not rocket science. As I have already stated it’s just prepping your site for the search engine. There are three ways to go at it. They are as following:

  • On-Page SEO
  • Technical SEO
  • Off-Page SEO

If we were to give a brief description On-Page SEO and Technical SEO are related to prep work we do on the frontend and on the backend. While Off-Page refers to the prep work that’s needed to be done outside of the website like link building, advertising, etc. But let’s not talk about Off-Page SEO right now. Since you are here that means that you are more interested in Technical and On-Page SEO. And want to know what’s the difference between them.

Well, if I have to put it in simple terms technical seo is about prepping the backend while on-page seo is for the on-site content.

Here are some of the aspects that are checked out when doing technical seo:

  • Load Speed: Site speed is a very important factor when search engines are deciding on a ranking for your site. Not only does it affect the ranking of your site but also the traffic as well. If a visitor finds your site loading time to be very long then he would feel annoyed and might never visit your website again.
  • Site Structure: It’s very important for users and search bots to be able to easily visit all the necessary pages that are found on your site and are assigned to each role. The more structured the site is the easier it is to navigate it.
  • Mobile Friendliness: We all know how most of the traffic we received is from mobile devices. Most of the time when looking up a new site we usually use our mobile phone. So it’s very important to ensure that the website is optimized for mobile devices.
  • Plagiarism Check: It’s true search engines and visitors value quality content whenever they visit a website. But those content not only need to be meaningful but also uniques as well.
  • Page Redirects: Broken links are the last thing you want on your site. So it’s very crucial that you handle the necessary page redirects accordingly. Like for pages that are not found have to have a 404 page similarly 302 pages must also be prepared as well.
  • XML Sitemap: The sitemap is an important aspect of your site especially for search engines. They contain all the pages that the search engine needs to visit even if they are not available in the main navigation.

That’s for the technical seo part. But unlike technical seo which in optimizing the behind the scene on page seo mainly entails the prep work that has to be done on the frontend part of the site.

Since you already learned about some of the backend work that is needed to be done for technical seo, now let’s talk about some of the front-end work which is equally important.

  • Using Keywords: Well if you want your site to be found for the words that the user searches in the search engines that you must first find out and research what words they use to search the services that you provide. Those words are known as keywords. You must use those keywords on your site in the appropriate places so that the search engines may recommend your site when a user searches using your target keyword.
  • Optimized Titles: Search engines give high value to the title of the page. Cause they represent what that page is made for. They are the initial identity of the site. So it’s very important that the title is created with meaningful keywords that are relevant to your site.
  • Quality Contents: As we have already quality and meaningful content are important aspects whenever a site rank is determined. Those content must have the right amount of keywords and written in such a way that they are approachable as well as impactful.
  • Media Assets Optimization: In the front end there are not only the text contents but also visual contents as well. Such as videos and images. They play an important role in helping visitors understand their services with a visual representation of them. Thus when choosing such assets you must be very careful. Cause many high-quality images that are used in sites are owned and licensed so if you use them recklessly then not only would your site be banned but you might even have to face legal implications as well. Also, the size and quality matters cause such media assets also affect the load speed of your site as well.
  • Optimized Meta Description: Yeah you might have already heard by now that meta descriptions aren’t as prioritized as they were in the past. In fact, you might even find that they don’t hold much influence on site ranking. But that doesn’t mean that they are expendable. Remember meta description represent your site to the visitor in the search engine even before they visit the main site. And that’s not all if they optimized with the right keywords then they may also help your site be ranked high for the meta description only.

So after all this which one is better? If you ask me I think both are equally important. No matter which kind of website you have A video streaming site, a portfolio site, an e-commerce site it doesn’t matter if it’s new it needs to be optimized according to search engines so that they are found for the targeted keywords. And remember it’s an ongoing process so the contents and other aspects of the site must be monetized on a regular interval and updated accordingly.
