WHAT IS AFFILIATE MARKETING?

Affiliate Marketing is an arrangement through which an online company or a retailer pays a commission to an individual or a group for traffic or sales generated from its referrals.

HOW DOES AFFILIATE MARKETING WORK?

Affiliate Marketing works on Product Marketing and the creation of parties. To make it work, three different parties must be present :

a. Product creator and Seller

b. Affiliate Marketer

c. The customer or consumer

a. Product Creators And Sellers

The seller may be a solo entrepreneur or maybe a large company that has its product to market. It can be a merchant, product creator, retailer, or vendor.

The products can be anything like Web Hosting, Household goods, Electronic Appliances, Services like PowerPoint Tutorials.

b. Affiliate Marketer

An Affiliate Marketer, also known as a publisher or an advertiser, the Marketer can be an individual or a group that markets the seller’s product in an attractive way to potential customers. In other words, the affiliate promotes a product to convince customers that it is valuable or beneficial to them and convince them to purchase the product. If the customer or consumer buys the product, the affiliate receives a portion of the revenue made.

Affiliates often have a very specific audience to whom they market, generally sticking to the audience’s interests. This creates a defined niche that helps the affiliate attract customers who will be most likely to act on the promotion.

c. The Customer or Consumer

Whether the customer knows it or not, they (and their purchases) drive the sales of an Affiliate Marketer. Affiliate Marketers share these products with them on social media, blogs, and websites. When customers buy the product, the seller and the Affiliate Marketers or Affiliates share the profits.

Sometimes maybe the Affiliate will have to choose to be upfront with the customers and disclose that they earn a commission for every sale they make or other times the customer may be completely unaware of the Affiliate Marketing industry.

The Affiliate’s share of the profit is included in the retail price. The customer will complete the purchase process and receive the product as usual, unaffected by the affiliate marketing system in which they are a crucial part.

HOW ARE AFFILIATE MARKETERS PAID?

Affiliate Marketing is a quick and inexpensive method of generating revenue without the struggle of actually selling a product Affiliate Marketing has an undeniable draw for those looking to increase their income online. But how does an affiliate get paid after linking the seller to the customer?

The answer may be complicated.

The customer doesn’t always need to buy the product for the affiliate to earn a commission. Depending on the program, the affiliate’s contribution to the seller’s sales will be measured differently.

The affiliate may be paid in various ways:

a. Pay Per Sale: This method is the standard affiliate marketing structure. In this program, the seller pays the affiliate a percentage of the sale price of the product after the customer purchases the product. In other words, the affiliate must get the investor to invest before they are compensated.

b. Pay Per Click: This program focuses on the affiliate to motivate or encourage and redirect customers from their marketing platform to the seller’s website. This means the affiliate must engage the customer to the extent that they will move from the affiliate’s website to the seller’s website. The affiliate is paid based on the increase in web traffic.

c. Pay Per Lead:

A more complex system is - pay-per-lead affiliate programs compensate the affiliate based on the conversion of leads. The advertiser or affiliate must convince the customer to visit the seller’s website and complete the desired action — whether it’s filling out a contact form, signing up for a trial product, subscribing to a newsletter, or downloading software or files.

Types of Affiliate Marketing

a. Related Affiliate Marketing

As the name suggests, related affiliate marketing involves the promotion of products or services by an affiliate with some relationship to the offering. The connection is between the affiliate's niche and the product or service. The affiliate has enough influence and expertise to generate traffic, and their level of authority makes them a trusted source. The affiliate makes no claims about the use of the product or service.

b. Unattached Affiliate Marketing

Unattached Affiliate Marketing is an advertising model in which the affiliate has no connection to the product or service they are promoting. They have no known related skills or expertise and do not serve as an authority or make claims. This is the most uninvolved form of affiliate marketing. The lack of attachment to the potential customer and product absolves the affiliate from the duty to recommend or advise.

c. Involved Affiliate Marketing

Involved affiliate marketing creates a deeper connection between the affiliate and the product or service they're promoting. They have used or use the product/service and are confident that their positive experiences can be shared by others. Their experiences are the advertisements, and they serve as trusted sources of information. Because they're providing recommendations, their reputation may be compromised with any problems that arise from the product or offer.
