Online and e-commerce businesses are more common now in this day and age and some have been huge factors of success and money for people for their hard-working efforts. Anyone can start an online business, but the people who really put the work in and study the fundamentals are the ones who get rewarded in the end.

Any business that isn't online is going to end up being a failure., A statistic back in 2019 showed that 83.4% of businesses have their own website using common social networking sites like FaceBook, Instagram, Twitter, Linked In, and Google Ads.

But what if I told you there's an app that can be considered to be mixed between a social networking website and a search engine that not many people are aware of its the power to get website traffic.

Introducing, Pinterest.

For those who don't know what Pinterest is, let me quickly explain. Pinterest is a website and IOS app with over 450 million monthly visitors that can be used as a way to marketize and bring traffic to a different link/website by creating boards and pins.

Sounds confusing, I know but trust me I was just as lost but over time it gets easier and begins to make sense.

How To Use Pinterest for Marketing

It's important to create a Pinterest business account before doing anything. If you have a website or blog that you own and you want to get as much traffic as possible, use Pinterest.

When you're done creating the business account now's the time to post some quality content. With Pinterest, they give you the option to create boards and pins. Boards are ways of organizing and spreading out what you want your posts to be about; So for example, if I wanted to create a pin about blogging tips, I would make a board first titled "Blogging Tips" and add that pin onto the board.

Pinterest allows you to copy and paste the link of your promotion to a created pin and that is what your content is all about. Choose the niche and look at other Pinterest creators and see what they're doing to generate that many monthly views and followers.

Come up with a content strategy and plan with Pinterest and make sure you're creating 10–20 pins every day if you want to generate traffic and monthly viewers faster. After all, the goal is to get people to click AWAY from Pinterest and onto the link you want them to.

Mistakes to avoid:

-Treating it like every other social platform. When it comes down to it, Pinterest is not like the usual social networking site. It's combined with being a search engine site primarily and gets over 450 million monthly viewers. So many people overlook the impact of what this website can bring for traffic.

-Crappy designed pins. Similar to a YouTube thumbnail, you need to create the right cover for a pin. Luckily, Canva is a great way to design a pin cover, it even gives you the right coordinates and the option to publish right to Pinterest when you search 'Pinterest pin'.

-Not posting enough. Pinterest relies on its creators to give out as much content as they can for there to always be new fresh ideas and content so Pinterest doesn't become irrelevant. The more pins and boards you create, the faster you'll see your monthly viewers grow. It's simple, with good SEO descriptions and pin covers being posted daily your views will take off as long as you do it daily.

-Working too long on the pins. You may think that it's impossible to upload 20 pins in one day. While it may take an hour or two it's certainly doable. It's easy once you make 5 pins just for one blog post, you don't even need to make a pin for every piece of content you make. It's better to make multiple pins with the same link as it's still content.

5 Ways to raise your chances of success:

Optimizing Account

Just like any other website, if you want to get traffic and viewers the fastest way is to optimize your account for SEO. When you create pins using the Pinterest search bar and type the topic that your article is about, the suggested keywords Pinterest gives you are in the description.

Compelling Titles

You want your viewers to click on the link so you want to make sure the title would draw someone's attention.

Make sure to add keywords in the title as well, having 2–3 keywords in a compelling title will have a good chance of going viral. To match with the title, add a colorful title cover that you have full confidence in.

Use Boards

Boards are a major factor in your Pinterest portfolio. The more boards you create the more different groups of people will visit your boards and explore through the pins attached to them.

By adding board categories that are SEO friendly and relevant to the pin your Pinterest profile will be more expanded. I always think that storytelling is the most important part of any content creator's work and this can be the same with Pinterest boards. Add a unique image as the thumbnail of your boards to get the viewer to show curiosity and look through it.

Research

It's never a bad idea to do extra research on Pinterest marketing. I've been researching with YouTube and Medium as a way to develop my knowledge on the process of Pinterest marketing.

Conclusion

If you read through all of this and have your account created and ready to go, take action now and start making pins before someone else beats you to it.

Pinterest is a great alternative way to generating traffic and views. Please be aware that you likely won't have a million monthly viewers your first month. With every social networking app, it takes time to grow and gain views and followers. It's a process but as long as you keep posting 15–20 pins a day then you'll soon be growing organically where you get thousands of monthly views every day.
