The greatest warriors in history have shed more blood than any other great person throughout history, regardless of their accomplishments in science, the arts, philosophy, politics, business, or any other sphere of human endeavour.

So take a deep breath and get ready to learn about 25 of history's most lethal, violent, and murderous fighters.

1.Alaric the Visigoth

Alaric, a Visigoth ruler, had the distinction of having taken Rome under siege. That elevated him to the rank of honorary Roman citizen and "master of soldiers," making him a respected citizen of the Roman Empire. Alaric marched his soldiers south to Campania after capturing Rome, taking Nola and Capua along the way.

Alaric was on his way to the Roman province of Africa, where he meant to supply his troops with the imperial rations, but a storm destroyed his ships and prevented him from making the trip. Alaric the Barbarian could only be defeated by Mother Nature.

2.Count Roland

In the poem Chanson de Roland, which was written some time between the eleventh and the twelfth century, Roland, a great French warrior and mediaeval folk hero, is portrayed as a timeless figure.

In the past, Count Roland served as Charlemagne's commander and top warrior along the Breton frontier. Legend has it that he was killed in a pass in the Pyrenees in 778 when Basques cut off the Frankish army's rear guard as it was leaving Spain after an invasion.

3.Horatius Cocles

When the city was invaded by the Etruscans, Horatius Cocles, a legendary Roman warrior, guarded the Tiber Bridge. His successes on the battlefield may serve as the inspiration for pages of writing.

To cut a long story short, just remember that Horatius lost his eye in combat due to an arrow that he pulled out while still wearing his eye on it and continued to fight like a beast, earning the moniker "Cocles," which translates to "one eyed." Do you agree that this man's bravery cannot be questioned?

4.Prince Rupert of the Rhine

Prince Rupert was incredibly ambitious despite having a gentle exterior and coming from an absurdly wealthy family. The German prince enlisted in the military at the age of fourteen. He later had a very varied and colourful career, but is best known for leading the royalist cavalry during the English Civil War.

The qualities that set Prince Rupert apart from other people included his combat prowess and fierce warrior mentality, despite the fact that he was also an inventor, artist, businessman, and a few other things. For the record, he was such a skilled warrior that at one time, his adversaries thought he possessed supernatural strength and was impervious to death.

5.Vercingetorix

Vercingetorix, who is revered as France's first national hero, brought together various independent Celtic tribes to fight the oppressive Romans.

He fought bravely and vehemently to prevent the Roman army from encircling Gaul, as France was then known. After putting up a valiant fight against the formidable Roman army, Vercingetorix was ultimately compelled to submit after his men were routed at Alesia.

6.William Wallace

Because of Mel Gibson's Braveheart, William Wallace became well-known throughout the world, but those who are familiar with European history were already aware of the renowned Scotsman's prowess as a warrior.

Wallace is regarded as one of Scotland's most important national heroes because he sacrificed his life to free Scotland from English tyranny.

7. Basil II (The Bulgar-Slayer)

Basil, sometimes known as "the Bulgar-Slayer," was one of history's most violent and ruthless monarchs. From January 976 to 1025, he ruled the enormous Byzantine Empire as a Byzantine emperor of Greek descent from the Macedonian dynasty.

At the time of his death, the empire had reached its greatest geographic extent in more than four centuries, extending from Southern Italy to the Caucasus and from the Danube to the borders of Palestine. Basil II was always known for fighting more viciously than any other soldier in the army during these bloody battles.
