Why choose only high bay led lights

The suspensions are among the high bay led lights most used in an interior. And rightly so: today they display looks that personalize and bring a real decorative touch to a room. But they also generate many questions: styles, shapes, materials, proportions or even heights, how to choose? Do not panic, we tell you everything to make the right choice of its suspension according to the rooms of the house and according to its style!

Basic rule no 1: the type of lighting of a pendant light

The suspension, by its position on the ceiling, provides a room with general lighting, that is to say, high bay led lights room as a whole. It's simple, it's the light that we turn on when entering a room! The general lighting that it provides is homogeneous lighting, sufficient to see and orient yourself in a space; this lighting also gives the ambient tone of the room. This is why the lighting of a pendant lamp must be soft enough not to dazzle. For this, we prefer economical halogen bulbs or compact fluorescent bulbs with a warm white color. Note that, depending on the height of the wire of the suspension, if it is adjustable to measure for example, we can intensify the lighting of a suspension, to make it very directional. It's all a matter of dosage!

Basic rule no 2: the proportions of a pendant light according to the size of the room

The dimensions of the room, and its shape (square, rectangular) are decisive in establishing the dimensions of the suspension that we will choose. To buy your pendant light in store, we will therefore have made sure beforehand to provide the dimensions of the room in which we want to suspend the light. Here are some rules in order to obtain an optimal and balanced rendering:

- For a room of less than 10 m², the diameter of the suspension will be between 30 and 40 cm.

- For a room ranging from 10 to 15 m², we opt for a suspension with a diameter of 40 to 45 cm.

- For a room of 15 to 20 m², you need a pendant lamp with a diameter ranging from 45 to 50 cm.

- Finally, large rooms with an area greater than 20 m² are fitted with a ceiling light at least 60 cm in diameter.

The values given have the minimum values: nothing prevents you from playing excessively with an extra-wide suspension!

Rule no 3: how high should a pendant light be?

The only rule is that a suspension must not obstruct the movement of people and therefore prevent a good 90 meter from bumping its head in the shade! Then, depending on the function of the pendant in a room, the height will be very variable. Therefore, there is another number to remember, and that is the ceiling height you have available. The following heights are generally accepted depending on use:

- For an average ceiling height of 2.50 to 2.80 meters, and use in an entrance, living room, kitchen or bedroom, a pendant lamp must not not descend below approximately 2.15 meters from the ground.

- To illuminate a dining room table, the pendant lamp can descend up to 1.60 meters from the ground.

- For use as bedside lamps in a bedroom, make sure to position the suspensions on either side of the bed 30 to 50 cm above the bedside table. A trick to "cheat" on the height of your ceiling: to visually move away a ceiling that is too low, choose a drum or cylindrical suspension and adjust the length of the wire close enough to the ceiling.

Rule no 4: a suspension that imposes style from the start

In the hallway, the pendant lamp should make a good impression from the first glance. The entrance is the first room that we discover, it sets the general tone of the decor universe; every detail must therefore be taken care of. Lighting and fixtures in particular with a suspension at the right height and well positioned: approximately 2.15 meters from the ground so as not to obstruct traffic and centered on the ceiling so as not to obstruct any door opening (entrance or cupboards by example). The bulb of the suspension should be rather warm white (3000 Kelvin approximately) for warm and flattering lighting, with sufficient intensity (approximately 250 lux). Style wise, anything goes, but we recommend Scandinavian-inspired suspensions in PVC or polypropylene, in natural woven materials, rattan or wicker, which are the most beautiful effect. Also the wired pendant lights with an impeccably chic silhouette! Some models are equipped with a diffuser that emits a soft light.
