We've all wanted to be businessmen/women at some point in our lives. Having your own business means having flexibility when it comes to time and money. A lot of Kenyans are starting to venture into the business world. The most common thing that deters one from starting a business is always the capital. But, with this article, I'll give 10 business ideas that you can start with less than 10,000/= shillings.

Here is a list of businesses to start with 10,000/= shillings in Kenya:

1. Poultry Farming

Most people in this generation do not want to start any kind of agricultural business. This is a great advantage for you. The fewer people wanting to start poultry farming, the less the competition. Poultry farming will really do you well since most restaurants/hotels will always serve chicken. After your chickens grow you can start approaching your area hotels and see if they'll buy food from you.

2. Selling Second Hand Clothes/ Mitumba

80% of Kenyans wear second-hand clothes. Second-hand clothes have a huge demand in Kenya. Go to Toi market or Gikomba for cheap clothes that you can resell. Honestly, when it comes to second-hand clothes ladies' clothes sell best. Start with a minimum of 8,000/= Shillings.

3. Selling Women Handbags

We all know ladies love looking good and no matter how many bags they have they will always want to buy another one. Buy new or second-hand bags and resell them. You do not need a physical location for your shop you can just start by selling online. Join Facebook groups, start a Facebook/Instagram page, and advertise your bags. You can start by buying quality second-hand bags (Gikomba) and see how your business will do and later on you can switch to new bags (Eastleigh/ Uganda/ China). Starting with a minimum of 5,000/= shillings.

4. Selling new shoes

Buy cheap and new shoes in the Kamukunji market and resell. Buy shoes that are trending and are in style at the time. If you do not know the ins-and-outs of the Kamukunji market, there are people that offer services to take you around at very cheap prices. Start by selling to your friends, family, and neighbors. The minimum amount needed is 10,000/= shillings.

5. A ladies Beauty Shop

A beauty shop is not just about makeup. You can sell things like lotions or oils, hair accessories, and jewelry. Every woman uses at least one of those. Find a shop that is near a busy road, most of your customers will be the passersbys. Having your shop near a salon is also a big advantage. Are very popular place to get beauty products at wholesale prices is Dubois.

6. Pedicure/Manicure business

In Kenya, both men and women seek these services. The pedicure and manicure business is really booming in the major towns of this country. You do not have to have a salon. You can start by doing house calls and as you grow, you can seek a well-established salon and offer your services. When it's fully grown you can get your own Manicure/pedicure salon. For this business, you can just buy simple beginner tools for a minimum of 10,000/= shillings.

7. Smokies and Boiled eggs business

In this list, this is the business with the lowest amounts of capital needed. You just need a smokie trolley, eggs, and smokies. Get a location near a school, a church, or a busy road. The best places to buy wholesale smokies are Kenchic distributor shops.

8. Selling Fresh fruits and Juice

Many people are seeking to live healthy by taking fruits and fresh juices. Take advantage of this. You can start by selling around offices and businesses. Just choose a good location where there are many offices and business stalls. Get your fruits in bulk in major markets such as; Muthurwa or just your hometown markets, so that you can get maximum profits. Another advantage of getting your fruits in markets is that you get fresh ones. The minimum amount needed is 2,000/= Shillings.

9. Car Wash Business

This is a business that you will never lack customers because a lot of Kenyans own cars. To start a car wash business, choose an area with a good water supply and, then buy a car washing machine.

TIP: To get regular customers you should get a location near a pub, restaurant, park or a bar most car owners will accept to get their car washed because they have the time.

10. Salon/Barber Shop

This business will get you a lot of cash because everyone shaves or plaits their hair. As long as you have a good location you are good. You honestly don't need to know how to shave or plait. you just need to hire professionals who will do that for you. To start, you can start with one or two staff members and increase your staff as your business grows.

Most of these businesses do not have much competition. So, what are you waiting for??? Start now and thank me later in two years. All the best, as you start your new adventure.
