Please enjoy our interview!

Congratulations on all of your success as an award-winning journalist, and a sought-after writer and speaker. What is the main focus of your podcast, "Sessions with Steven"?

Steven: Thank you so much! My main focus for my podcast "Sessions with Steven" is to bring heart, humor and education to viewers whether that be through audio or bringing a visual experience.

What do you enjoy most about being a journalist?

Steven: What I enjoy most about being a Journalist is that I get to choose the stories in which I would like to spotlight. In a world full of negativity and nonsense, I choose to cover things that are not always pleasant but meaningful to bring conversation to current times for change in our future.

What would you say have been some of your favorite interviews to date? Why?

Steven: I don't exactly have a favorite interview but more so memorable ones and honestly all of my interviews I truly learned things from. So all I hold dear to my heart.

What have been some of the most memorable moments in your career this year?

Steven: I would say receiving the U.S Challenge Coin in Washington D.C in acknowledgment for making history as the World's First Black DeafBlind Journalist. Having the opportunity to speak with Members of Congress with the Usher Syndrome Coalition and actually being a part of bringing awareness to the forefront while receiving over 15+ proclamations this year! So happy to know we are making progress. This year was a lot of work, I am thrilled about what's to come!

What have been some challenges along the way that resulted in triumph and victory?

Steven: There has been so many challenges along the way, I swear some wouldn't even believe.(laughs) Being a black man alone who is rising in the world has its challenges, then being legally DeafBlind and also being someone who has more heart than hate it's pretty foreign to some nowadays. I choose to operate from a higher vibration rather than lower frequency. In these times, I do believe it is hard not to be consumed by negative things when those are the things that are being celebrated. However, I am grateful to simply be one who is celebrated as I am.

What is a quote that you live by?

Steven: There are three quotes that I actually live by and those are "Treat people how you want to be treated", "Make a difference" and "Walk by faith and not by sight."

What can we be on the lookout for from you in 2024?

Steven: I'm working on so many different projects, I will be making some announcements throughout the year. I'm so excited! So please follow me on my social platforms to stay updated on all my projects!

What advice would you have for aspiring media professionals?

Steven: Educate yourself in anything it is that you're pursuing. Know who you are while allowing room for growth. Do not compare yourself to others, that will be your biggest mistake, which is why I say know who you are. The money will come, the money will go, then it will come back ten folds… do not sacrifice your dignity and self-respect for any quantity of treasure. You are worthy enough to be who you deserve to be in this world. Keep striving!
