I HAVE MY CHOICE OF THINGS TO DO

or not

•

Although I wanted to jump for joy at having one more day off work, it also made me wonder where and how I’d made up that day’s pay. Scrunch it from somewhere, I thought.

Ah, one more day!! I’ll have my choice of activities. Or not.

I can sit on my lanai in the warm sunshine and read. Or not.

There are always parks to visit, where I can bring my camera and try to capture the magnificent wildlife and landscapes that abide in them. Or not.

Maybe I’ll invite a few friends to join me for lunch! Or not.

If the weather cooperates, I can just sit in the sun and relax. Or not.

One extra day off to do whatever I please! Or not.

With so much planned and unplanned to do, what I didn’t plan on were the many doctors’ appointments for my husband and me that needed to be held.

While we’re not critically ill, we try to stay healthy by seeing the various physicians. Good Lord! How many cardiologists are there anyway? Yet, my husband sees one for his issue (until he needs the surgery specialist, then it’ll be two). I see one (thankfully) but not the same one my husband sees. We have different issues.

Then there’s the pulmonologist. (S) He sees one for his COPD. I see another for my sleep apnea.

And the list goes on and on.

I am, however, grateful that we see the same podiatrist and primary doctors and their staffs are always cooperative by giving us the same day appointments.

And yet, I look at my calendar and wonder how on earth I managed to keep all these appointments straight and work.

I know I’m complaining but we all have our issues with time consumption. Take next month, for instance. My husband and I have our podiatrist appointment at nine on a Tuesday. As soon as we leave that office, we head to another city three hours away! That doctor has no office nearby and no other doctor in my area treats spasmodic dysphonia. Oh well, another busy day!

My life kind of reminds me of that saying: Getting Old Ain’t For Sissies!

And yet, while all this is going on, I try to find a bit of time to do what I enjoy. Reading!

When there is a minute or two to spare, I’ll make a cup of tea and sit on the lanai with the latest book I’m reading: Of Blood and Bone by Nora Roberts. Almost done with this, then it’s on to the third book of the trilogy: The Rise of the Magicks. (Oh, what’s book one? Year One)

I haven’t yet taken the time to grab my camera and re-explore the not-so-local parks. We’ve entered into our rainy season and with our very warm air, the rain brings out all the bugs! Oh, did I mention how I hate bugs? It seems as though as soon as you leave your car, every flying insect in the parks thinks: “hey, fresh meat! Lunch time!” For this excursion, I will happily wait until early October when the rainy days stop, and the cooler weather settles in.

It’s also not such a great idea to be wandering through the parks this time of year because every park has at least three ponds. They are not man-made ponds. They’re spring fed – which means – hello – ALLIGATORS!!

There are signs everywhere: DO NOT FEED THE ALLIGATORS! DOGS ARE NOT ALLOWED.

However, there have been a few unfortunate people who have walked their dogs in these parks, ignoring the signs and their pets became lunch. While I feel bad about that situation, the owners should have adhered to the signs and not walked their dogs near the water.

So, here I am. Two and a half days away from my next day of work and I’m doing my best to relax. I’ve had my cup of tea, wrote what I hope might be a bit entertaining, took a pain pill (because sitting at the computer makes my back ache (yes, I have a bad back)), and listening carefully at my lanai calling me. It wants my company, so I think I’m going to pick up my book, get my butt outside and sit in the warm air and read.

Then, I’ll take a break for thirty minutes and play Word Chums with my son and grandson. Holy cow! That kid is smart. He’s twenty years old and autistic and constantly amazes me with the words he knows. He even amazes his parents.

Oh well, Word Chums is for a bit later. My lounge chair is calling my name so I should stop dilly-dallying and get outside.

Have you noticed that I’m blubbering? I’m trying to get to my eight hundred words!!

And now, I have!!

Have a great day and thank you for reading and commenting.
