Why Was Lizzo Forced to Take a Four Million Dollar Loss on Her Beverly Hills Home?
The Mansion is Stunning, so What Happened?
Lizzo’s sprawling Beverly Hills mansion just sold for 11.1 million, almost four million less than what she paid in 2022.
The property was once owned by another music legend:
“Built in 2018, the property was constructed on the same parcel where musician Harry Styles had previously owned a home, however that dwelling was demolished soon after he moved out in 2016 and replaced with the newer abode.”
Mansion Global reports that Lizzo originally put the ultra modern tree house like property on the market in December of 2024 at just under 16 million but failed to find a buyer.
This 5400 square foot abode exudes clean lines and sleek finishes:
“The L-shaped wood, stone and glass residence has a foliage-filled, two-story atrium, wood beamed ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows and terraces with views of the backyard and surrounding mountains.“
Why Did Lizzo Have So Much Trouble Finding a Buyer?
After all, Mansion Global describes the estate as almost picture perfect, both inside and out:
“A dramatic dual-sided, floor-to-ceiling fireplace separates the kitchen and open living room, which flows to an outdoor covered lounge. There’s also a formal dining room, a gym and wellness area, an office, a theater, an outdoor kitchen with a fire pit, and a saltwater infinity pool.”
Could it be that home buyers in Beverly Hills prefer a more traditional design? That and Spanish style seem to dominate the market in LA, at least what I have seen.
According to this High End Estates Magazine article, the location within Beverly Hills is more important than the age or style of the home:
“The specific location of a home within Beverly Hills can influence how its age impacts market value. Certain neighborhoods, such as the Flats or Trousdale Estates, are highly sought after, and homes in these areas may command higher prices regardless of age. Proximity to amenities such as shopping districts, parks, and schools can also affect a property's desirability and value. In some cases, the prestige of the neighborhood can outweigh the drawbacks of an older home, making location a critical factor in the valuation process.”
Lizzo’s home is described as being located in the Santa Monica mountains above Beverly Hills. So, maybe that is too far of a drive to conveniences for some folks?
In this article by the LeonardR Group, Leonard Rabinowitz says contemporary design is highly coveted in the area due to its indoor-outdoor appeal:
“One of the hallmarks of contemporary design in Beverly Hills is the seamless integration of indoor and outdoor spaces. With Southern California’s year-round mild climate, modern mansions are designed to make the most of their surroundings.
Glass walls that slide away effortlessly, covered outdoor lounges with fire pits, and infinity-edge pools that blend with the skyline are all common in today’s high-end properties. Expansive patios, outdoor kitchens, and lush landscaping extend the living space beyond the home’s interior, creating an ideal environment for relaxation and entertainment.
These outdoor spaces are not just about aesthetics. They are carefully designed extensions of the home, incorporating features like climate-controlled cabanas, retractable shade structures, and outdoor sound systems to enhance usability and comfort.”
So, maybe Lizzo made the mistake that a lot of us make in our life times. We bought too high because we fell in love with the home. That happened to my husband and I. In our case, not only did we buy too high, we also over improved.
We learned our lesson the hard way, and two houses later, we have done OK. Only the lesson wasn’t nearly as expensive as Lizzo’s. Yet, something tells me she is doing OK as well.
