Why I Recreated Davido’s ‘Dami Duro’ Video - Crayon

11 years ago, Nigerian superstar Davido released the video of his massive hit single, "Dami Duro". The song went on to become a national and international hit and has become for so many people who grew up around that time a video that elicits a lot of nostalgic emotion. Below is the original "Dami Duro" video:

Now, in 2023, MAVIN singer Crayon is revisiting that video and has recreated the beginning of the video in a new snippet video that he posted in promotion of his new song "The One (Chop Life)". The video has cameo appearances by Magixx, Boy Spyce, and more as well. Below is Crayon's re-enactment video:

Now speaking about the decision to recreate that video and his love for Davido during a new interview with City 105.1FM, here is what Crayon had to say about the whole thing.

During the interview, Crayon was asked about the video that he created, "This song 'The One (Chop Life)', when I saw the snippet, I was like wait what? The video, were you intentional about recreating the Davido moment?" He said in response:

CRAYON: I was very intentional about it. I came up with the idea. So I just spoke to one of my guys, his name is Amaro, he's in my A&R team. I was like bro, I want to recreate this because I feel like I need to give Davido his accolades because that guy is such an amazing person. Like aside being an artiste, he is a hustler, he is the GOAT. So I felt like I needed to recreate that vibe. Because the song gives that energy. Like oh, I'm the one that shut down the bar. And I remember 'Dami Duro', he shut down the bar in the video. So I spoke to Solo, that's my manager, that I need to do something like this. Even the styling, I came up with the whole styling thing. Like the football, money, everything. It was quite deliberate. It was all boys, did you notice? Cuz like I just wanted to be all guys. Me and my guys chilling. So I just wanted to give Davido his accolades man, just paying that homage as one of the biggest Afrobeats artistes ever. So I just did it and it made sense. And people loved it. I just wanted to recreate that nostalgic feeling.

"What's your relationship like with Davido?"

CRAYON: Uhmmm, I've met him a couple of times. He's the GOAT. I'm cool with his manager.

"Has he reached out to you like oh, I saw this thing?"

CRAYON: No, not yet.

Davido probably will reach out to Crayon about this tribute at some point. It is a really nice tribute that he paid to Davido, and it actually does rhyme with the song and its essence as well.
