According to reports, Nollywood actress Funke Akindele who is currently campaigning for the position of deputy governor in Lagos State went to Ikosi Fruit Market on Tuesday and while there, hoodlums stormed the very popular market and chased her out.

Speaking abut the incident to the press, the PDP governorship candidate Abdul-Azeez Adediran popularly known as Jandor beside whom Funke Akindele is running, confirmed that their campaign was indeed cut short following the incident. Jandor further revealed that during a meeting with the chief Imam of Ketu Central Mosque, a security team member was stabbed while other people including journalists were injured. At this time though he says, Funke Akindele had already left the campaign trail while the team continued to make their rounds.

Hakeem Amode, a PDP Lagos spokesperson is alleging that it was the local government chairperson who sent the thugs to disturb their campaign. According to him:

HAKEEM AMODE (PDP): Usually when we go to the market, Funke Akindele goes to the market to speak with the market women, and we know it is our right to be able to talk freely, a campaign to anybody. The local government chairperson came into the market, used her car to block and brought a bunch of thugs to attack us in Kosofe local government, which is very, very sad; it is unbelievable we are not allowed to speak to people freely. Under the new electoral act, we are free to campaign anywhere; this is Lagos, where we should be able to talk to everybody without intimidation or discrimination. That should not even happen

Responding to the claims of being behind this, the opposing party APC through spokesperson Seye Oladejo denied involvement saying:

SEYE OLADEJO (APC): The PDP people are well known for their wild allegations; if people were attacked, I think it is what the security agencies would be interested in; I don’t think the solution is to take it to the media. As far as we are concerned, we are not in the business of violence; our party is going for victory, so why should we be distracted by people who cannot even put their house in order and want to come into government.

Taking to her social media on Tuesday, the day the attack happened, Funke Akindele posted saying:

FUNKE AKINDELE: It is best to work hard today for a better tomorrow. You have to keep pushing and moving no matter how tough the climb may seem. Persistence, determination and patience are the keys to getting to the top. There’s always light at the end of the tunnel. VOTE WISELY!
