"Why Do You Fear The Stars?"

They Are Just Balls Of Gas

What are stars? One day they were a huge discovery in the astrological field, but are they just a scientific discovery, a long list of big smart words to describe a flaming ball of gas. No, they aren’t just a bunch of chemical compounds smooched together in the galaxy. Stars are so much more than all of this, they are hopes and dreams of many who are lucky enough to see them.

The sun is also a huge star and it’s scary. It’s a huge fierce glowing ball of fire that you can’t even look directly at for too long. If you let it shine on to your skin it will burn away at your protective layers. It can cause skin cancer, but even with all these bad things we still pray for a sunshiny day.

They hold so much more than just a magnificent discovery within our galaxy. We wish upon them; we dream of one falling and being able to keep it. But just like most hopes and dreams, they eventually break apart into cosmic dust grains. Before they can reach us they fall through the atmosphere burning up until there is nothing left, never reaching us. Even if they managed to fall in one piece and make it to earth it would probably cause some significant damage, maybe that’s why not many dreams are fulfilled.

From an early age we are taught to blow our candles and make wishes and wish upon a shooting star. In my experience you always wish for things that are never going to happen very unrealistic it doesn’t take long for us to realise we should probably lower our expectations. We are always taught to believe in all kinds of things, magic, mythological creatures, gods, aliens oh and worst of all fairy tales. I’m not saying fairy tales are a bad thing, but it does mean we grow up having unrealistic expectations of life.

I myself have fallen victim to these unrealistic expectations of life a few times. But I know what real life is like and I know its not all prince charming’s and love spells. It’s just nice to have something to believe in, I believe in magic, mermaids and that there is more than just our life form out there. I fear the stars because they are just many lost hopes and dreams just floating in a faraway galaxy. Close enough for us to see but too far for us to reach out and grab.

Stars have many different meanings to them. Stars symbolise so much such as guidance and protection. We believe that our late loved ones are up in the stars and clouds. We look up and the sky and try to imagine what our loved ones are doing up there with all those stars. We love to star gaze because they are these magnificent things in the sky and no amount of scientific words will ever truly capture the true meaning of stars.

We dream of things like dancing among the stars, flying to space and watching them twinkle up close. When I look up at the sky, filled with all the bright stars and one twinkles brighter than all the others I like to think it’s a loved one telling me “everything’s going to be okay”.

I fear the stars because they remind me of all the hopes and dreams I may never achieve. All the wishes I’ve made just floating up there never coming true. But even with all of this I know ill never stop wishing on stars. Sometimes in all the darkness you just need that burst of light to keep you going.
