Why Can’t Alec and Hilaria Baldwin Sell their Hamptons Home?

Do you care if a celebrity once lived in your home? Maybe you get a few bragging rights at a cocktail party, but once those 15 minutes of fame are up, you are stuck with the house, and does anyone really care who lived there before you?

Apparently no one. That could be why celebrities are having such a hard time selling their homes….That and possibly unrealistic pricing goals.

Alec and Hilaria Baldwin havve been trying to unload their Hampton mansion for almost four years. Alec even starred in his own real estate video:

The 10 acre property listed at close to 20 million offers some incredible features:

“The spacious, cedar-shingled modern farmhouse has been marketed as ’simply unparalleled,’ with five bedrooms, eight bathrooms, and abundant natural lighting. Other notable features include an eat-in kitchen, a dining room, a home theater, a wine room, and a wood-paneled library.

Outside, a fieldstone fireplace, gunite pool and spa, and a fenced vegetable garden are also attractive assets.”

But, this Realtor.com article points out that the home is a little dated and not close enough to amenities for many potential buyers:

“It's not surprising that this property hasn't sold yet, given the challenges it faces," Jenny Lenz, managing director of Dolly Lenz Real Estate, tells Realtor.com®.

"Firstly, the location is not considered prime for most buyers. While Amagansett is trendy and idyllic, this property is north of the highway and off the beaten path, yet it's priced as if it's on a prime street in East Hampton or Southampton," she notes.

And although the home shows well in the listing photos, Lenz adds that its style could also be a barrier for buyers.

"The house is quite dated for the current market," she notes. "Buyers in this area are looking for more modern styles and either new construction or recently renovated homes."

Can You Find an Affordable Home in the Hamptons?

Yes, you can. Well, I guess it depends on what you consider affordable. I discovered this listing for a Four bedroom 2300 square foot cozy home for under 2.5 million. As long as you are willing to compromise on size, a Hamptons home could be yours for the taking.

The modern beach house built in 1997, is set on an acre in a highly desirable location:

I love how private it is, yet close to everything. I can see myself relaxing by the pool, sweet tea in hand. Oh wait, they don’t drink sweet tea in the Hamptons.

No, they like their Frose, a “Frozen rosé blended with fruit liqueurs, a massive hit on breezy afternoons at spots like Sunset Beach.”

Take that back. I wouldn’t fit in there at all. Give me the Jersey Shore, or Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, for that matter. And I bet you have to dress to the nines everywhere you go.

I think I’ll stay right here in Southwest Florida in my non-descript home about 10 miles from the beach. As they say in real estate school, location, location, location. The Hamptons is definitely not mine. And maybe not the Baldwins’ either.

Rumor has it they are trying to sell both the Hamptons home and their Greenwich Village Penthouse to make a West Coast move. I can see them in Beverly Hills.
