I used to work as a barista when I was younger. I was always behind the machine, brewing coffee and cleaning up spills. I loved my job. There was nothing better than coming in on a Saturday morning and getting busy with customers’ delicious coffee drink orders. It was my own little cocoon of happiness inside of a bustling cafe.

But there was one thing I couldn’t help but notice over the years, and that was how people acted in response to the type of coffee they drank. After speaking with thousands of customers, certain patterns began to emerge. Here’s what I’ve discovered:

Disclaimer, I must say, please take these with a grain of salt. I’m by no means an expert in human psychology. The following information is just an amalgamation of various theories and studies I’ve seen with my own two eyes. I don’t believe you can tell a person’s whole nature from a single coffee alone, But I do believe that certain coffee choices do hold some weight in a person’s characteristics. So with that out of the way, here are my observations:

1. Cappuccino

The cappuccino is perhaps one of the best examples of a “refined” coffee drinker. Their beverage is always neat and tidy, and they take their coffee quite seriously. If you like cappuccino, chances are you’re a bit of an introvert, but you have a wild streak and adventure in you somewhere. You may even be somewhat of a snob if you don’t enjoy the company of other coffee drinkers.

2. Long Black

The Long Black is often the type of drinker that’s nice and quiet. They tend to be a bit stiff and reserved, and they try to avoid confrontations with other people. Long Blacks are most likely people who would be considered “boring” or “plain.”

3. Flat White

The Flat White is perhaps one of the most common drinks found in a modern coffee shop or cafe. The Flat White drinker tends to be really analytical and precise when it comes time for making a decision. They are very particular about every little detail of their life, down to the fabric they use in their clothes.

4. Espresso

The espresso drinker tends to be an active, outgoing person. They are known to be optimistic and friendly, and they love to try new things. The espresso drinker doesn’t mind getting down and dirty with their work, and they usually stand out because of it.

5. Iced Coffee

Yes, Iced Coffee is a type of coffee drinker. Their kind of drink is typically sweet and refreshing. If you like iced coffee, chances are you’re also music orientated, and you’re not afraid to show it. You probably own a guitar or at least know how to play the piano.

6. Latte

Latte drinkers are somewhat easy-going and always relaxed. They’re usually quite friendly, and they can be considered the “mellow” type. You could potentially go over to their place on a whim and they would immediately make you feel welcome.

7. Mocha

The mocha drinker is a bit of a complex type of drinker. They like to be alone but enjoy company at the same time. Sometimes, they have a hard time making decisions, especially regarding social interaction. If you want a mocha, you’re likely very inquisitive and drawn to deep philosophical questions about life. You may even enjoy writing narratives as a hobby or past-time.

8. Chai Latte

The Chai latte drinker is a true artist. If they’re not an artist themselves, they will surely appreciate visual art and architecture. You are the type of person that longs for feeling and passion in your life. You hate it when people try to hide their feelings or pretend to be something they’re not.

9. Tea Latte

In all honesty, the tea latte drinker is a bit of an oddball. They are often deep thinkers and introverts, and they prefer no company except their thoughts. They may even be considered “weird” because of their eccentricities, but that’s just the way it is.

10. Decaf Coffee

A decaf drinker is a fantastic person. They are pretty humble, and they tend to be a bit reserved. Others may see them as dull or plain. That’s because they don’t care about being famous or trendy. They just want to live a happy and peaceful life with the people they love.

So there you have it, a field guide on the different types of coffee drinkers in the world.
