What I don’t Like about Selena Gomez’s Encino Mansion Listed for 6.5 Million

Custom built in 1989 by singer Tom Petty, this 11,000 square foot abode is certainly impressive. With to-die-for hard wood floors and vaulted beamed ceilings…Not to mention the ultra private lush grounds. If I had the funds, I would certainly consider this place.

Realtor.com calls this Selena’s bachelorette pad. Quite a fancy one at that, with two primary suites and other next level amenities:

“The kitchen is certainly the crown jewel of the home thanks to its marble countertops, island, and brick stove.

The primary bathroom features a dual vanity, a glass-enclosed shower, and a large soaking tub.

Heading to the lower level, guests will see a wine cellar, gym, massage room, office, glam room, a kitchen, and a vocal booth, which is thought to have been part of Petty's original recording studio—and will likely have served as the perfect place for Gomez to write her latest hits.”

Even with all the bells and whistles, I would make a couple of changes. First thing would be: Remove the flowered wall paper in the powder room. I was certainly surprised that Selena would choose that wall covering at all. It belongs more in my grandmother’s parlor than a young pop star’s bathroom.

But that is easy to change. What is not so easy is to redo the staircase. While I love the spiral design, those wooden spindles don’t do it for me. Why not replace them with wrought iron or steel.

That is no easy task. In our Missouri home, we traded the traditional spindle staircase for glass banisters. Only it became a huge project because we couldn’t simply replace the banisters. The entire staircase had to come out.

The end result was beautiful, but we regretted the decision as soon as we sold the house. Never got out money out of the renovation. As the experts say, stick to improving kitchens and bathrooms for resale value.

If only we had listened. And maybe that is why Selena and her new husband Benny Blanco have decided to move. They are upgrading to a much larger 35 million dollar Spanish style pad in Beverly Hills.

It boasts seven bedrooms and 12 bathrooms and apparently a green house solarium. Apparently Benny has a green thumb.

The home sits on a rare double lot and also includes two guest houses. Maybe the pair plans to entertain a lot of overnight guests?

Can You Purchase a Similar Home in the Area for Less Money?

You can pick up this 5800 square foot home with spectacular views for a mere nine million.

Built in 2005, the contemporary dwelling needs no work that I can see. Notice the clean lines and minimalist design. I am all for Spanish style houses in Los Angeles. They are stunning. But this one caught my eye because of the sweeping views from almost every angle and the open floor plan:

I’m sold. The huge kitchen and built in espresso machine will do it for me.

Why do celebs seem to gravitate towards those old fashioned cut up floor plans? Possibly because they value their privacy and don’t want conversations drifting from one room to another. After all, many have help around all day long everyday.

Honestly, I don’t understand why Selena and Benny need a 35 million dollar Beveraly hills mansion when the six million dollar one seemed just fine. Maybe because the new house has a custom play room?

Maybe there is another announcement coming.
