The Short Life Story

When Katherine was 5 years old, her baby sister was born. Her parents, Lucas and Helen Faye decided to name her Lily. Katherine always thought that she had the perfect life. Her parents were still together, no one in her family was in jail or on drugs. It was just a simple life. Her mom and dad would go to work. Lucas was on the road a lot for his job. While Helen was at work her sister would watch Lily and Katherine when she got home from school until Helen returned home from work. They would only see Lucas for maybe a week or two out of the month. But even though the girls barely seen him Katherine was still a daddy's girl. So when Lucas and Helen sat Katherine down to tell her that they were getting a divorce, Katherine (who was only 7 years old) was very upset especially when she learned that her dad would be living in a different state with a woman she didn't even know. But Lucas promised that he would come and visit them when he could. Katherine was so sad she climbed up on her dad's lap and cried herself to sleep. The next day Lucas was packed and ready to head out to start his new life while promising again that he would be back to visit whenever he could.

Everyday for the next two years Katherine would look out the window every time she heard a vehicle go by to see if it was her dad coming to visit like he promised he would. But there was no such luck. Years passed and Katherine was in 8th grade and by then she had long since stopped looking to see if her dad would come. She had made peace with the fact that he just didn't have time for her or Lily, and life just moved on. She was at the end of her last year of middle school and was nervous about starting high school next year but she had a good group of friends so she knew that as long as she had them then next year wouldn't be so bad.

Katherine got home from school one day and her mom told her that they were leaving their home in Colorado to move to Texas to be closer to their grandmother. So Katherine would be starting high school in not only a different school without her friends but a different state entirely! She was so heartbroken! But at least she was able to finish the 8th grade before they moved.

They Day after her 8th grade graduation Katherine, Lily, and Helen started packing for their move to Texas. Once they got there Katherine was horrified! They were going to be living in the middle of nowhere with just a generator for electricity and no running water. They had to haul the water they needed from a house about a mile away. But as horrifying as it may have been she learned the value of hard work and even got stronger because of it. Katherine's grandmother had some farm animals that needed taken care of so Katherine would help her with them. She would help stack the hay bales for the horses, haul water for them and help feed and water the dogs, chickens and goats. It actually got to where Katherine would enjoy doing the work outside and she was getting good. She would also help with cleaning out the horse stalls, and building/fixing fences and animal pens.

Then it was time to start school. The day that she had been dreading because she didn't know anybody. Katherine ended up going through high school without any problems. She had a few friends and had had boyfriends all the way up until her senior year then she decided she was done with boyfriends because all high school boys wanted was one thing and she wasn't about to give that up because she respected herself to much to just give it up to anyone.

After Katherine graduated high school she decided to find work instead of going to college. So she got a job as a housekeeper at a hotel in the next town. 2 years after graduating high school and working at the hotel Katherine finally moved out of her moms house and into a hotel in the same town her job was located. After about 2 months of living in hotels she was finally able to get a studio apartment.

Then one day while she was at work she got a message. It was her ex that broke up with her in high school and that she thought she would never hear from again. Well they got to talking and pretty soon it turned into a long distance relationship because he lived in California. After about 3 months of having a relationship over the phone she decided to tell him that he can come live with her and look for a job. She thought this was a good idea because she was so in love with him she didn't see a problem with what she was offering.

So now that they are living together everything was goin great. He was so sweet and he was constantly looking for a job. But after a year went by he still didn't find a job, he stopped looking, he stopped being sweet, he stopped helping with the housework (which wasn't much because it was just the 2 of them in a studio apartment). All he would do all day and night was play video games and eat. But he couldn't cook so he would just make whatever microwavable food he could find till Katherine got home from work and told her that she needed cook because he was hungry and was tired of eating microwavable food.

A year later he had finally found a job and life finally started looking up. So when Katherine found out she was pregnant she wasn't worried at all because they both had a job. But a couple weeks after she told her boyfriend that she was pregnant she came home to find out that he had quit his job. So they had to move back to her mom's property because she couldn't afford the rent for the house they were in by herself.

Their son was born 6 weeks early and had to be kept in the hospital for a month before he was able to go home, and even then he had to come home on oxygen. After 2 weeks of finally being home their baby boy was able to come off the oxygen and Katherine was able to return to work. She eventually found out that her boyfriend wasn't taking care of their son while she was at work. All he would do is play his video games and leave the baby in the crib the entire time. He wouldn't change him or anything.

Katherine worked the night shift at her job so when she came home she would tell her boyfriend that she is going to get some sleep for a few hours because she had to be back at work that night. Her boyfriend would get upset saying that she sleeps too much and that now that she is home she has to take care of their son because he is off duty. So she would stay up to take care of their son and her boyfriend while he played his video games and got maybe a and hour or so of sleep before she would have to drive to work which was in the next town over (about 45 mins away). this went on for almost 2 years

One day Katherine made a hard choice. She was going to kick her boyfriend out. He would throw a fit when he had to take care of his son, and then he would just leave him in his crib or in his room and play his games. He also started to become abusive towards her. So as much as it hurt she decided enough was enough and told him to leave. She said that he could still come and visit their son but he was staying with her. He seen his son once, a couple days before his 2nd birthday.

Their son is almost 4 years old and his dad hasn't seen him since right before his 2nd birthday. Hasn't even talked to him. He will ask for a picture of him every couple months but that is it. But that is ok because Katherine is now married to her soul mate her treats her like a queen and will do anything for her and her now 2 sons and daughter on the way. Katherine has been able to be a stay at home mom (which she has always wanted to be) without any judgement from her husband. She can work if she wants to but for the most part she gets to spend all day with her kids. At the end of it all she has the perfect life she has always wanted.
