The First Morning the World Feels Too Big
Тhe first moment the world feels too big and you realize you’re the one in charge.
There is a special moment in the life of every person who decides to become financially independent and start building something of their own.
A moment when the world, the same world that yesterday seemed orderly, predictable, and relatively safe, suddenly expands.
And with that, it becomes brighter, scarier, and full of opportunities that often make you feel small.
And today we’re going to talk about just that.
About that inner turmoil that comes when you realize for the first time in your life that you are the leader
Because it’s great to read “How to” articles, but we miss the most important thing, the way the little creator feels at the very beginning and the tension of being “alone” in a sea of other creators.
When security disappears and freedom has not yet arrived
When you work for someone else, fear is distributed.
There is always a structure and rules. There are people who make decisions for you. There is always someone above you who makes the difficult decisions.
But when you decide to start something of your own, whether it’s a business, a project, a service, a product, or a creative practice, everything changes.
Suddenly, there is no “right way.” No one has given you instructions, no one even gives you a guarantee.
And then the doubts arise:
“Who am I to do this?”
“What if I fail?”
“What if I succeed and can’t handle it?”
“What if everyone else knows something I don’t?”
This is normal. It’s part of the process of creating a new identity.
And it’s always very scary. If someone tells you that they knew who they were and where they were from day one, they’re lying.
Everyone is uncertain when they start something new.
Take, for example, children in their first year of school. For them, it’s something completely new, and most of them are shy on the first day until they get their bearings and understand what’s going on.
Now imagine that you are those children.
You have just entered the vast world of people who work for themselves. It is normal to have doubts and questions at first, it is normal to feel like everything is falling on top of you.
The first day when the world became too big for me
I remember the first morning after I quit my secure job.
I got up, made myself some coffee, sat down in front of my laptop... and was struck by the silence.
There was no schedule, no tasks.
There was no “you have to do this today” or any kind of system. No one told me what to do. And that was scary.
There was only me.
And an empty space that I had to fill on my own.
Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t dive into this world without any ideas or ambition, but the moment I really decided to do it, it was as if everything disappeared.
Every idea I had.
I had many ideas, but no plan. And even if I had one, I still didn’t know how to make these things happen. Now I was in my boss’s shoes, now I had to lead the process. And that’s a big responsibility.
And then the thought struck me:
“What if I’m not good enough? What if everyone else is bigger, smarter, more experienced?”
I asked myself whether the designers who were bigger than me would laugh at me, whether anyone would notice me and take me seriously.
That was the first moment when the world seemed scarier to me.
But it was also the first moment when I realized that fear is a gateway, not a barrier.
You have to get through that first morning and ask yourself exactly those questions.
And I know that for many of you it’s the same.
Some of you reading this may have recently started publishing your work and have the same doubts or fears оr maybe you’re just thinking about leaving your 9-to-5 job and embarking on the adventure of financial independence and the freedom of being a creator.
Today, I’m here to help you make that first morning a little more organized and less scary.
Fear is not proof that you are not ready.
Fear is proof that you are on the threshold of something new.
The world seems scarier because you now see it through the eyes of someone who has something to lose and something to gain.
But this is where the other side comes in. Because the step you have taken gives you so many new opportunities, skills, the chance to meet new people who will open up thousands of new worlds for you and discover new versions of yourself.
This is the moment when you realize that leading yourself is the most difficult but also the most beautiful project you will ever have.
Accept that the first 3 months will be chaotic
This is not a failure.
It is adaptation.
The first few months are like looking at a blank canvas, it’s scary, but also promising.
This is the time to find your way and make a plan. During these three months, you can experiment and take risks. It’s like a trial period.
Stop comparing yourself to others.
Stop because they are not you and because, in reality, when you look at them, you don’t see what’s going on behind the scenes. You don’t know how long it took them to get where they are now. Maybe they were like you in the beginning.
And by comparing yourself to others, you distract yourself from what really matters. And instead of spending time building yourself and what you do, you spend time looking at how far others have come.
You are the biggest hero in your journey.
Act like you.
Focus on yourself, not the ‘competition’.
