Tems opens up

By Jide OkonjoPublished 8 months ago 3 min read

Nigerian singer Tems was in the news not too long ago for something outside her music. The singer was being accused of being pregnant with rapper Future's child. It was a rumor that started after some pictures and video of Tems started circulating online which showed Tems wearing an oversized coat and sporting a bit of a stomach.

Just as quickly as the rumor started, almost as quickly did it take off. People online were convinced that the singer was pregnant, and so many people had so many thoughts about the whole thing. Now, during a new interview with Angie Martinez, Tems is finally talking about the whole pregnancy ordeal, how her mother reacted, and more. Here's what Tems said.

Tems during interview

Speaking about people's curiosity about if she's pregnant, Tems said:

TEMS: I did an interview earlier and we came out of the building and TMZ was there, and like there were people and they started asking questions. They were like "oh did you feel any kind of way that they said that you were pregnant?" And I was just like "uhhh, I don't know". I'm the kind of person that I smile every time that things are like awkward. Like I just find it funny, things like that. Like am I being pranked?

Then the interviewer asked her "Why did people think you were pregnant?" to which she said:

TEMS: I don't know. I went to a fashion show, and I think the top I was wearing was tucked in to leather pants, and then I was holding the coat and maybe I forgot to suck my belly in. Maybe for a second I forgot to hold it in. It was a food baby because we were eating so much that day, so I think there was like a two second clip. I mean, that's what I gathered. I saw like one clip, and I was like this is still not enough, but I didn't know what was happening until like two days later. And it was because like my cousins and my mom like messaged me like "oh this is definitely a lie?" I'm like what's going on? What's happening? What's this? And then I went online, and I'm seeing pregnant pregnant pregnant, like what's happening? What's going on? From where? It was just like nah, you guys are joking!
