More than 12,000 homes and buildings have been burnt to ashes, resulting in losses running into billions of dollars. Casualties and Losses So far, 16 people have lost their lives in the wildfire. Thousands of others have been injured and are receiving medical assistance. This disaster has affected lives deeply, and the affected families are in dire need of immediate support. Homelessness and Displacement The fire has displaced over one million people from their homes. These people are forced to seek shelter in relief camps, and the government and non-governmental organizations are providing them with the basic necessities of life. The number of people displaced is, however, so high that it has become a problem for the relief efforts. Property Damage Over 12,000 homes and buildings have been destroyed. The economic loss in this disaster is estimated to be in the billions of dollars. The lifetime savings of families have been lost. Rebuilding this area will be a long, burdensome process.
