Whether written centuries ago or just last year, literary couples show that love is timeless.
The Penny Pincher
THE PENNY PINCHER When J woke up this morning, he found himself lacking the effort to get up out of bed. He lacked the courage to face the world this morning. He knew everything that was going to happen today, he would wake up, after turning off the alarm four times before deciding to get up. He will shower, brush his teeth, brush his hair, and walk Diamond & Pebbles down to pee in front of the building where he lived. 42nd and 3rd ave. The heart of the city, and yet he will have to travel across the bridge to his worksite, so he would put on his jumpsuit, grab a pre-made sandwich he would make the previous morning, and head out to work.

Invasion
I don't like the term 'Home Invasion' - I'm not invading your home. I'm challenging the paradigm, questioning your proposed authority and seeing if you've got what it takes to hang on to this or that. I've read that nothing is ever created or destroyed, that it just changes state. Or hands. Ownership is only ever finite and arbitrary.

Broken Stones of England
The gravestones formed crumbling waves which lapped against the gnarled and immovable trees. Ripples of them were heaped against the boundary wall of the graveyard and their various curved heads undulated in a single swell against the ivy-covered coping stones. Each pulled slab bore the traces of the earth from which it had been torn, a clean tideline which separated roots from carved words. We tore the earth asunder as we pulled out those stones like rotten teeth, as we wrenched bodies and bones out of the dank soil.

The Little Black Book
In Rijeka, it had taken Lewis two days to find a licensed Harley dealership. His needed a change of tires, which he wanted to get done before he went any further south along the Adriatic and, he hoped, eventually into Greece, Turkey, and from there into the deserts of the Middle East.

Fur & Zest
Cara stares at the ceiling fan. Narrows in on the furry edges of the blades where dust has accumulated. When was the last time that thing was turned on? At least four fans in the house and they’re used what… a dozen times per year? Do a few peak summer days warrant such dust collecting contraptions? Oh what she wouldn’t give to be hot right now. To be in a slip dress and flip flops, watching the sunset on a palm lined beach, needing a fan.

Lucas.
He bit his bottom lip, eyes squinting at the words on the page in front of him. His dark brown hair tied back in a bun, with the wispy bits too short to stay put falling over his eyes. Annoying him as he kept brushing them back every few minutes or so. He had dark eyes, but not the angry type. The type that makes you want to know more when you look into them. The kind that made him look older. Instead of 17, he looked 17 with a lifetime of knowledge. Of secrets.

The Secret That Lies Beneath
He wet his lips, breathing raggedly as he took tentative step after tentative step; his feet had carried him into the nearby cemetery in hopes of finding a place to rest his cut up, swollen feet. He crossed diagonally through tombstones until he found a quiet, secluded spot behind a cluster of graves. He had by this time stopped his movement and was partially crouched against the back of a strangers’ stone, his right hand idly combing through the fresh grass that tickled between his toes; occasionally digging his fingers into the dirt, all the while fading in and out of consciousness. Soon, he slipped into a deep, motionless slumber.
