Get Ready for an Extra Hour of Sleep: Daylight Saving Time is Ending in North Carolina
Get Ready for an Extra Hour of Sleep: Daylight Saving Time is Ending in North Carolina As fall approaches, it’s almost time to turn back the clocks and enjoy that extra hour of sleep. In North Carolina, daylight saving time (DST) is about to end. Each year, we move our clocks forward in the spring and turn them back again in the fall, a routine that's been in place for decades. This year, daylight saving time will end on Sunday, Nov. 3, at 2 a.m., giving us an extra hour to rest and making the mornings a little brighter.

Renaissance Festival War Stories September 7-8, 2024
...Continued from weekend 3 Saturday was the 6th annual Un-Official Pride Day at The Minnesota Renaissance Festival. Nearly 1400 people rsvp'd to our Facebook event. It gets bigger each year and we are so glad to love and be loved in the communities: Renaissance and LBGTQIA+. Shops decked themselves out, acts wore their best rainbow, flag, or pride duds, and the patrons take their garb to the next level. While I'm glad to be the nexus of the event annually, I am not the true origin. PRIDE doesn't happen without all the people willing to be generous in a community to show who they are and will not be hurt or repressed for a safe love or lifestyle.

10 Proven Benefits of Meditation
In today’s fast-paced world, finding moments of peace and clarity can seem like a daunting task. Between juggling work, relationships, and personal obligations, many people feel like they’re constantly on the go. This constant rush can lead to stress, burnout, and a sense of being overwhelmed. However, there is a simple, time-tested practice that can help anyone reclaim a sense of calm and balance: meditation. Even dedicating just five minutes a day to meditation can yield remarkable benefits, transforming both mental and physical health. Reduces Stress One of the most well-known benefits of meditation is its ability to reduce stress. In today’s world, stress is often considered the norm. However, chronic stress can lead to a host of health problems, including anxiety, depression, and cardiovascular diseases. Numerous studies have shown that meditation reduces the production of cortisol, the stress hormone. Take, for example, the story of Jack Dorsey, the founder of Twitter. He openly credits meditation for helping him manage the intense stress that comes with running a billion-dollar company. Just five minutes of mindfulness practice can provide similar stress-relief benefits for anyone, regardless of their lifestyle. Improves Focus and Concentration Meditation teaches us to control our wandering thoughts and keep our minds focused on the present moment. This increased ability to concentrate has been observed in various studies, where participants showed improved attention spans and task performance after consistent meditation. A great example is NBA champion LeBron James, who integrates meditation into his training routine to enhance his mental sharpness on the court. If LeBron can find time to meditate, so can you! Enhances Emotional Well-being Our mental health is just as important as our physical health, and meditation plays a pivotal role in maintaining emotional balance. Regular meditation has been linked to reduced symptoms of depression and anxiety, as it helps regulate negative thought patterns. Take Oprah Winfrey, for instance, who has publicly discussed how meditation has helped her cultivate inner peace and emotional resilience. Dedicating even a few minutes a day to meditation can lead to a greater sense of self-awareness, reduced reactivity to negative emotions, and overall emotional well-being. Boosts Creativity Are you feeling stuck creatively? Meditation can help. When you meditate, you clear your mind and allow for new ideas to flow in. It’s no coincidence that many famous artists, writers, and musicians, such as Paul McCartney, have turned to meditation to enhance their creativity. By allowing the brain to enter a relaxed state, meditation encourages divergent thinking, which is essential for coming up with original and innovative ideas. Promotes Better Sleep If you’ve ever struggled with falling asleep, meditation might be the solution you need. A consistent meditation practice has been shown to improve sleep quality by reducing racing thoughts and promoting relaxation. This has been especially beneficial for people with insomnia or high stress levels. For example, media mogul Arianna Huffington, after experiencing burnout and health issues, has made meditation and better sleep a cornerstone of her wellness routine. Increases Self-awareness Meditation promotes mindfulness, which in turn increases self-awareness. This self-awareness can help you better understand your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. With more insight into your internal world, you’re more likely to make positive changes in your life. Meditation teacher and best-selling author Eckhart Tolle emphasizes that meditation can lead to spiritual awakening, a heightened sense of consciousness that brings peace and purpose. Strengthens Relationships When you are more centered and less reactive, your relationships naturally improve. Meditation fosters a calm and compassionate mind, allowing you to communicate more effectively and empathetically with others. Even a five-minute practice can help you approach conflicts with a more open heart and a less judgmental attitude. Imagine how much your interactions with loved ones could improve with a daily commitment to meditation. Reduces Symptoms of Anxiety and Depression Meditation has been shown to decrease anxiety and symptoms of depression by promoting a calm and clear mind. Studies have proven that mindfulness-based practices reduce the brain's default mode network activity, which is responsible for rumination and excessive worrying. Individuals like Dan Harris, an ABC news anchor, have publicly shared how meditation helped them cope with anxiety and panic attacks, transforming their mental health in the process. Improves Physical Health Meditation doesn’t just benefit the mind; it positively affects the body too. Research shows that meditation can lower blood pressure, reduce the risk of heart disease, and boost the immune system. By practicing mindfulness and deep breathing, you engage the parasympathetic nervous system, which helps the body relax and recover from stress. It’s a simple yet powerful tool for improving overall physical health. Fosters a Greater Sense of Purpose When you meditate, you create space to reflect on your life, values, and goals. This introspection often leads to a deeper sense of purpose and fulfillment. People like actor Will Smith have spoken about how meditation has helped them align their actions with their higher purpose, leading to greater personal and professional satisfaction. When you take the time to connect with your inner self, you gain clarity on what truly matters to you. Final Thoughts The beauty of meditation lies in its simplicity. You don’t need hours or elaborate setups to reap its benefits. All it takes is five minutes of quiet reflection a day to start seeing significant changes in your mental, emotional, and physical health. Whether you’re seeking to reduce stress, improve focus, or simply find a little peace amidst the chaos, meditation is a tool that can change your life for the better. If people like LeBron James, Oprah Winfrey, and Jack Dorsey can find time to meditate in their busy lives, so can you. Start small, stay consistent, and watch the positive transformation unfold.
