Nigerian musician most popular for his song that has now gone viral, "Who's Your Guy", Oluwasanmi Ogundipe popularly known as Spyro is a fast rising Afrobeats artiste who has been enjoying success especially in the last year because of "Who's Your Guy" and other songs like "Billing". Recently in fact, Spyro revealed that singer Tiwa Savage is going to be jumping on a remix of "Who's Your Guy", a remix which is set to drop very soon. But the way to the top has not been easy for Spyro, just as is the case for so many upcoming artistes. In the face of such desperation and hunger, sometimes people suggest that one does things that they would normally not want to do, and that is exactly the case of what happened to Spyro.

During a new interview with Hip TV, Spyro opened up about how a good friend of his suggested that he go to a herbalist (babalawo) in order to boost his musical career. Here is what Spyro said about the offer he received and why he ultimately did not take it.

Spyro for Hip TV

During his interview with Hip TV, Spyro opened up about being talked into going to see a babalawo but ultimately refusing, saying:

SPYRO: It has been a couple of years grinding in the industry and it felt like I was just stuck at a point. So this person was obviously coming from a good place and that was why he advised that I should, you know, try checking out a herbalist. He said he would take me to somebody that can do it, that he has a Baba that can do it. I think this was in Lekki Phase 1 precisely at a lounge very close to Ebeano. I can remember vividly it was a nice lounge and he just came like "Omo you gats top am oh, everybody dey top [do] am."

I'm like nah. I smiled, I mean, I wasn’t going to be rude because he was trying to be nice but deep down in my mind I knew I was waiting on God and I was going to be patient because I realized something: that once it's not God, if the Devil gives you something, he takes it back with ten. If he gives you one, he takes it back with 10 and there’s always a condition. I’m not about to subject myself to that kind of situation, so I was gonna wait so I told him ‘nah, thank you very much but me I’ll wait on my God’ and right now you can all see what’s happening. God did.

Hmm. Do stories like this really still happen in the entertainment industry? Sometimes one thinks it is only in the films that things like this still occur. What do you think about what Spyro said? Let me know your thoughts by leaving a comment either below or on my Jide Okonjo Facebook post.
