Nigerian singer Rema is very unconventional in his approach to music, in so many ways. One big way is in the fact that his album covers, and single covers, are almost never photoshoot pictures, but rather, they are artworks.

For his album, Rave & Roses, Rema in his normal style did an artwork cover and upon looking at it a lot of people felt it was demonic as they took the cover to mean that an upside down church was burning with demons running around.

Now during a new interview with Cool FM, Rema is finally opening up more about the album cover and what it really means. Here is what Rema had to say about the whole thing.

Rema during interview

Speaking about his album cover which some of have called "demonic", Rema explained the artwork saying:

REMA: A lot of people have a lot of misconceptions, they said it's a church. Anything they see cross they say it's a church, it's not a church, you understand. So when somebody asks me this question, I'm like what embodiment of me consists of a cross and a fire? The whole house actually kinda signifies me because you have this cross on my neck and chest, and to the right of the house, you see the fire and that is literally the fire tattoo on my arm. So the fact that it's upside down is literally because of like my weird and unusual approach to music. Also, the fact that everything about my career is literally like defying the laws, you know, it's like we're not taking the normal route which yes, I was criticized for it, but yeah, that's literally what it's all about. If you even check the back cover of the artwork, you'll see inside the artwork, you have things like the time machine and if you check the time machine, it says future which brings us back to the Headies Awards when I said I'm the future. So literally that house is helping me - it's a visual form of my message, of me, you understand. So the fact that it's upside down, I've already covered that point, so now you understand what I'm trying to pass. But it's okay for people to have their misconceptions because I have never done an interview about explaining the artwork but I did that on purpose though, so that people actually start paying attention to these pieces. Because we work so hard to create these artworks. We study, and we think so hard and go really deep in the detailing so the fact that we do things to catch people's attention and people are just arguing about it, now we've finally gotten their attention. A lot of times people just want to do photoshoot and just drop the music, but no, I want to touch every part of it is this artistry, I want people to tap into every part of this artistry. So now, people actually care, so now I will now care enough to start explaining them.
