Reason First: Is Chris Brown a Certified Simp?

Hip Hop and R&B star Chris Brown has taken to Instagram to voice his opinion of his ex's boyfriend. Was this the right thing to do?

Things just aren’t the same for wannabe gangsters. Chris “Pimp C” Brown (or is it Simp C?) has made headlines again. This time it is not for any domestic violence case. No, this time around, the “Deuces” singer and dancer had some choice words for his old flame Karrueche Tran and her new beau, NFL player Victor Cruz. In an Instagram missive, Brown stated that Miss Tran ought to “upgrade” from her present relationship. Upon the deletion of such rhetoric, Brown then queried his IG followers whether it was a suck[er] move to think about your ex?”

Chris Brown’s career has had peaks and troughs. Following his ultra publicized assault against pop superstar Robyn “Rihanna” Fenty, Brown bounced back like round ball. Since that controversial incident, he has created a slew of singles and critically acclaimed albums. He’s an accomplished actor who has appeared on screens large and small. But this latest behavior concerning his former girlfriend is the type of behavior that signals that Brown is incapable of letting the past go. He appears to be a simp, or a male who lacks the proper amount of knowledge of the game. For him to post his message on IG shows a young man still haunted by his past run-ins with the law. To announce to the world the he is still harboring feelings for Tran is consistent with a whipped puppy dog who wants to find affection from a previous owner.

The Virginian pop phenom also crossed the line by taking subtle shots at Cruz. In terms of one-on-one communication, Brown failed miserably. Instead of approaching Cruz to his face, he implied that the professional football player needs some “game spirit.” Irony abounds. Brown has exhibited his lack of respect for the game by not addressing Cruz on the status of a man. If he had any grievances against the athlete, then Brown should have addressed those concerns unlike a coward. And yes, it is a poor choice to openly talk to your former lover over the internet especially. Whomever Brown is with at this time ought to take offense to Brown’s brazen reply. Although he did delete the message, he must remember like the line in the monumental film, The Social Network (2010), that “the internet’s not written in pencil... it’s written in ink.” So whatever Brown was thinking when he posted that mind dropping, he should have realized these words would stick. No matter how many tours he headlines, or streams he garners, Chris Brown will forever be known as a beater. Maybe if he stays off of social media he might at least attempt to rectify this status. All that he has to do is just take stock of reality and apply reason to every endeavor in which he embarks.

He doesn’t always have to come off as the bad guy. As long as he keeps producing music and takes care of his daughter, the stain will be there but he can always iron over it. Brown’s quick response or “Instagfingers” represent a man who has not faced the truth that he and Tran are no longer a romantic item. To berate her current boyfriend was an error on Brown’s past. Though it might seem small and insignificant, it shows something for Chris Brown’s psychiatrist to mull over with him. Instead of devoting his energy to IG posts, Brown should be recording new songs, shooting videos, and investing his millions of dollars in ventures that should net him even more wealth. He should leave the snide comments about his ex and her boyfriend to the fans who just can’t shake the idea of the two being apart.
