History of James Bond and Omega Seamaster

Omega is more than a watch. Because it is the James Bond watch, there is no doubt as to the object of 007's adoration. The Omega watch has been the ideal ally for the most adored spy in the world ever since the 1995 premiere of GoldenEye. In a brief dialogue, Casino Royale praised Vesper Lynd's attempt to name the watch company that James Bond was wearing.

How it all started.

Pierce Brosnan's James Bond wore the Omega Seamaster Professional 300M Quartz in the film GoldenEye. Bond's watches can explode, slash, and occasionally kill. This one included a built-in laser cutter and a remote detonator. The fact that mechanical watches weren't yet making a comeback at the time made the blue quartz model the best option.

Lindy Hemming, a five-time 007 costume designer who won an Academy Award, was sure that Commander Bond would wear the Seamaster with the blue dial because he was a diver, a naval officer, and a discreet gentleman of the world.

Since then, Bond has always worn Omega watches, among the most recognizable movie timepieces ever.

Longstanding Alliance.

What began as a clothing choice evolved into the recognizable timepiece Pierce Brosnan wore throughout his Bond films. The Seamaster with the distinctive blue bezel became known as the Bond Seamaster, built to last.

James Bond wore the Omega Seamaster 300M Professional for the next three Bond movies; Tomorrow Never Dies (1997), The World Is Not Enough (1999), and Die Another Day (2002).

In Tomorrow Never Dies, Bond discovers a modified Omega Seamaster with a built-in detonator, ultimately saving his life. It has a blue dial with a wave pattern and a blue dive bezel with an aluminium insert. There is now an automatic movement in the movement.

Bond's wristwatch gadget features a laser cutter and explosive detonator in Die Another Day, while in The World Is Not Enough, his watch with automatic movement hides 50 feet of wire with a grappling hook.

Omega Seamaster and Casino Royale represent the new era.

A blue Omega Seamaster 300M Chronometer with a metal bracelet and a black rubber-strapped Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M Co-Axial chronometer are two Omega Seamaster watches Daniel Craig wears as Bond in Casino Royale (2006).

Bond wears two watches for the first time. For the first time on film, Bond wore an Omega larger than 42mm, the Omega Planet Ocean measuring 45.5 mm in diameter.

In the 2008 film Quantum of Solace, Bond once again sports a single Omega watch. His preferred timepiece is a 42-mm Planet Ocean 600M on a stainless steel band with a black dial and bezel.

But in the movie Skyfall, he decides to wear both a 42-mm Planet Ocean 600M with a black dial and a dark grey bezel, as well as a 38.5-mm Seamaster Aqua Terra, his first Omega without a revolving bezel.

A ceramic bezel, a new dial, and the house movement calibre 8500 with Co-Axial escapement are now available with the Planet Ocean. There was an occasion to see Bond sporting a dressier watch, the Aqua Terra, on his wrist. It was a model with a dark blue dial and stripes with a nautical theme.

In the most recent, 24th Bond movie, Spectre (2015), which again stars Daniel Craig, the Seamaster 300M with Master Chronometer movement has shown on a famous 5-stripe black and grey Omega NATO strap.

When the action becomes intense, Bond switches from his dressy Aqua Terra to the Seamaster that Q has given him.

Bond: "Does it do anything?"

Q: "It tells time."

Only to subsequently learn that it accomplishes much more. After the first three films, the Omega returns with two unique features: a bomb and a countdown. Omega watch has also once more saved Bond's life.

A Quick Note.

Omega watches are superb, dependable, and well-known timepieces, whether they are new or used. Bond prefers Omega watches, and perhaps you will as well!
