Old favourites on repeat? Then this...

Anxious person? Prefer to watch the same old shows on repeat than face the fear of exploring something new? This one is for you.

TV time is sacred. And then you become a parent, and TV time is the holy freaking grail.

Gone are the days where endless hours could be wasted bingeing away. It never used to matter that I was watching that episode of Friends for the 1000th time, I could watch something new whenever I wanted, if that time ever came.

There's a comfort that comes from this, especially if you suffer from anxiety. The complete lack of suspense or surprise that comes from curling up on the couch in front of your favourite show is like a warm hug at the end of a long day.

Something I was totally unprepared for, was the groundhog day experience that is stay at home parenting. Suddenly, my whole life is that same show on repeat. Instead of comfort, the thought of watching the same show I've watched 1000 times only highlights the complete lack of variety in my life.

Not to mention the fact that getting time to sit and watch tv in peace seems like a distant memory. So if those rare seconds, minutes....dare I say hours arise, they are NOT to be wasted.

So, for the first time, not only are you anxious, but you're bored and craving something new. Only something new is terrifying. But you need it so badly. You love the safety of a sitcom. They just don't make 'em like they used to! Everything now is full of suspense, sex and drama. Just the thought of it makes you feel so reckless. How do sane people start a new show every other week? On second thought, maybe groundhog day isn't so bad. I can do the same thing over and over again and avoid insanity, right? Surely that's better than this reckless behaviour I'm considering right now? This is getting dramatic...

Cue Zoey's Extraordinary playlist.

This show is the perfect solution. It delivers the suspense, sex and drama and lightens the mental load through well placed humour and spontaneous musical numbers. Oh, that character you got super attached to just died? Have an absolute banger of a song to pull you out of that slump. Big emotional storyline imperative to overall narrative of the show? Once more with feeling!

This show is what it would have been like if just one sitcom had nailed the musical episode. I am looking at you Scrubs.

The cast is on point. Jane Levy is a pocket rocket as our lead and unsuspecting superhero, Zoe. Alex Newell is all things sassy and fabulous as across-the-hall neighbour, Mo. Peter Gallagher gives us all the feels as Zoey's terminally ill father. Lauren Graham slays as the no BS boss of the third floor.

Still need convincing? In a show that is largely filled with actors having a crack at singing (Alex Newell excepted), we have Skylar Astin. This dreamboat, wholesome, boy-next-door delivers the goods. His loyalty to Zoe is swoon worthy, he's gorgeous AF and those pipes! Colour me sold.

It's for every one of us that in the most awkward or difficult if circumstances wish it was appropriate to spontaneously burst into song rather than have to talk about our feelings.

It's for those of us who spend our days behind a screen, wishing someone would shake things up by busting out their best showstopper by the water cooler.

It's for those of us that need a warm hug, from someone new, that somehow doesn't feel like a stranger.

It's for those of us who use music as an escape. Those who know there is a song for EVERY occasion.

So if Friends, How I met your mother, Scrubs, Seinfeld, Frasier, The Nanny etc.... Then, Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist.

And frankly, even if none of the above. If human, then, Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist. I dare you not to connect, enjoy, laugh, cry, or just be straight up perplexed by this show. And if you're an anxious type, who struggles with the new. Then I DOUBLE dare you.

This show is the groundhog day cure I so desperately needed. The tiny little escape that doesn't leave me on the verge of a panic attack at the beginning of each new episode. It's fun. It's real. It's safe.

It's the warm hug from that stranger it feels like you've known all your life.
