Obtaining Glass Skin
Korean Beauty Products that I use to achieve clear skin
My journey with Korean skincare began a few years ago, during a time when I felt increasingly frustrated with my skin. Despite trying countless products from various brands, I just couldn’t seem to achieve the glowing, clear complexion I longed for. Each product promised to be the miracle solution, but none delivered the results I hoped for. I spent a lot of time, energy, and money trying to find something that worked, but nothing seemed to give me that radiant, flawless skin I desired.
One day, while browsing through skincare forums and watching videos online, I came across a term that piqued my interest: "glass skin." This term referred to a complexion so smooth, luminous, and translucent that it almost looked like a layer of glass. The idea of achieving skin that looked almost unreal in its perfection was both fascinating and intriguing. I had never heard of it before, but I was immediately drawn to the concept. The idea of having skin that appeared almost flawless without being overly perfected seemed like a dream, and I knew I had to learn more about it.
This curiosity led me down a rabbit hole of research into Korean skincare, a beauty philosophy that emphasizes hydration, layering products, and using gentle, natural ingredients. I was captivated by how different the Korean skincare routine seemed from the typical Western beauty regimens I had tried. Instead of focusing on harsh exfoliants or one-size-fits-all treatments, Korean skincare seemed to approach skin health with a deep understanding of hydration and nourishment. It felt like an approach that could help me address my skin’s needs from the inside out, rather than just masking the issues.
I decided to fully embrace the principles of Korean skincare and adapt them to my own routine. The first major change I made was in my cleansing routine. I had always used a one-step cleanser, but the Korean skincare routine encourages a two-step cleansing process. This involves starting with an oil-based cleanser to remove makeup and impurities, followed by a water-based cleanser to get rid of any remaining residue. At first, I was skeptical about using two cleansers, thinking it might be too much for my skin. However, I quickly noticed that my skin felt incredibly clean, balanced, and refreshed without being stripped of its natural moisture.
Next, I focused on incorporating layers of hydration. In Korean skincare, toners, essences, and serums are used to add moisture at various levels. I used a hydrating toner to replenish my skin right after cleansing, followed by a lightweight essence to deeply hydrate and prepare my skin for serums. One of my favorite products was a hyaluronic acid serum, which I quickly learned to love for its ability to plump and hydrate my skin. These steps may seem small, but they made a huge difference in how my skin felt and looked.
Moisturizing became the final and crucial step in my routine. I was amazed at how using a rich, yet lightweight moisturizer helped lock in all the hydration I had applied earlier in the routine. My skin immediately felt softer and looked more glowing. I also began using an SPF during the day, knowing that protection from the sun was essential for maintaining healthy skin.
Exfoliation also became a regular part of my routine, but instead of using harsh scrubs, I opted for gentle chemical exfoliants like AHAs and BHAs, which slough off dead skin cells without causing irritation. This made my skin look smoother and brighter over time, helping to reduce the appearance of dullness and uneven texture. The consistency in following this routine was key.
The results were noticeable almost immediately. After just a few weeks, my skin felt smoother and more hydrated. The texture improved significantly, and my complexion started to look more even. My skin looked plumper, with a fresh glow that I had never experienced before. It was the kind of radiance that didn’t require heavy makeup to cover imperfections—it was a natural glow that came from within.
However, I quickly learned that achieving "glass skin" wasn’t just about the right products. It was about consistency and patience. While the immediate results were promising, the true benefits only appeared when I kept up with the routine day in and day out. Skincare became a ritual for me, something I looked forward to each day. The process itself was as rewarding as the results. It felt like a self-care practice that allowed me to slow down and focus on my well-being.
Along the way, I also realized that achieving healthy, glowing skin isn’t just about products—it’s a holistic process. Proper diet, hydration, sleep, and stress management all played a significant role in how my skin looked and felt. I became more mindful of the choices I was making for my overall health, and as a result, my skin started to reflect the positive changes I was making in my life.
Today, I’m more confident in my skin than ever before. I’ve achieved a level of skin health I once thought was unattainable. My skin is smoother, brighter, and more resilient. Most importantly, I’ve learned that skincare isn’t about perfection—it's about feeling good in your own skin and understanding what works for you. My journey with Korean skincare not only transformed my complexion but also deepened my appreciation for how important it is to listen to your skin and care for it in a way that’s both thoughtful and consistent.
As I share this journey, my hope is to inspire others who are struggling with their skin to embrace a routine that works for them, take a patient approach, and be kind to themselves along the way. Glass skin may not be a one-size-fits-all goal, but achieving healthy, glowing skin is a journey worth taking, and I’m excited to see where it can take you too.
