Mercy Eke Heartbroken After Losing Over N100m in Heritage Bank Fiasco

Mercy cries out

By Jide OkonjoPublished 29 days ago 3 min read

In case you don't know, on the 3rd of June, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) revoked the banking license of Heritage Bank Plc, throwing the bank's depositors and shareholders into peril. According to CBN, the decision to revoke Heritage Bank's license came because of the bank’s inability to improve its financial performance. Also according to the CBN, the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) has been appointed as the liquidator of the bank. The NDIC says it would pay a maximum of N5 million insured deposits to each customer of Heritage Bank, and that for depositors with funds more than that, the insured deposits will be paid as and when the assets of the closed bank are realized.

One of the victims of this fiasco who held way more than N5 million with the bank is popular reality star and media personality, Mercy Eke. Mercy is in tears now, and in so much peril following this whole fiasco. She has now taking to social media to express her pain at this turn of events. Here's what Mercy said.

Taking to social media, Mercy Eke cried out about her situation with this ordeal saying:

MERCY EKE: I really don’t know how to react about this … I have been hoping for the best .. thinking there’s a way out…. #heritagebank. I have above 100m with them . How can they pay 5m from someone’s millions ? I have been praying. [My account manager] lured me into fixing my money, knowing fully well there’s been issues with the bank … I don’t have words for her, I blame myself. [Heritage Bank] was the bank that sponsored Bbn during my set, for them to pay our money we were advised to open an account with them… stupid me went ahead and funded the account … don’t worry I’m full of regrets right now. May God help me💔

My heart breaks for Mercy Eke and every other account holder in Heritage Bank going through this. I cannot imagine the immense pain they must be going through right now.
