Is Sarah Michelle Gellar’s Home worth 10.5 Million Dollars?

Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prince Jr.’s Brentwood, California home looks like it should be set in the Hamptons instead of LA. The Cape Cod style is tasteful and not overdone, as so many celebrities’ homes seem to be.

Yet, I find myself gravitating toward pictures of the exceptional kitchen and it’s lack of well, privacy. I’m not talking about the occupants’ privacy. Open concept kitchens are the rage. I get that. I’m talking about the dishes. You see all of them because almost every single cabinet features glass doors.

And while that looks elegant, my dishes are not. So, unless you are willing to go out and buy a whole new set of shall we say, presentable, table settings (translation: expensive) then you will have to redo the kitchen.

And at a price tag of 10.5 million, I think it’s a hard pass for me. Even if the kitchen were perfect, it’s still a no. A tad out of my price range, for now!

It’s not clear where the couple is moving, but possibly they are downsizing as their children are older now and Gellar has admitted in this Realtor.com article that owning a 7,300 square foot home involves a lot of maintenance:

“She described her initial excitement at finding a property that would serve as her sanctuary. ‘Initially, it's just the excitement. The idea that I have a home that is mine and that when you close those doors, that's your sanctuary, that's your peace away from everything.’

However, she admitted that her enthusiasm about homeownership soon changed into fear at handling the many responsibilities that come with buying a property, including maintenance of the home and all the bills that are involved.”

Other Comparable Homes for Less Money

If you don’t need quite as much space, and prefer a more contemporary abode, this nearly 5,000 square foot 1950’s home is listed for less than five million and you would presumably live down the street from the Gellar-Prinze family.

It also boasts some very interesting features which I doubt you would find in Sarah and Freddie’s house:

OK, I’m sold. What can I say? I am a sucker for contemporary style. Cape Cod doesn’t really do it for me. Honestly, as beautiful as the Buffy-The-Vampire-Slayer star’s home is, it doesn’t really feel like it belongs in California.

I picture this dwelling somewhere in Maine, perched high on a cliff overlooking the sea. I mean, just take a look at the flower boxes adorning the front porch. That takes me to the tony Hamptons on Long Island, not barefoot chic Southern California.

But I think I read somewhere that Sarah grew up in New York, so maybe that explains her East Coast style.

I still can’t get over all of the glass kitchen cabinets. Sarah and Freddie must have one heck of a dinnerware collection, or maybe several.

When we lived in the Midwest, our first kitchen also had glass cabinet doors. But they were smoked glass, so you couldn’t see what’s inside.

I pride myself on keeping a clean, organized kitchen. But I would never go so far as to display everything in my cabinets to every person that walked in.

That’s OK. To each his own. I am curious to see what type of decor the couple chooses for their next house. I bet they don’t try to recreate the glass cabinets…Just a guess.
