Is Kathie Lee Gifford’s Connecticut Home Worth 100 Million Dollars?
I have some thoughts…
After looking through the video of Kathie Lee Gifford’s Connecticut mansion, I felt nostalgic. I remember her talking about all the memories she shared with her late husband Frank.
Those lunches she enjoyed with former co-star Regis Philbin, and the 50th birthday party the Giffords hosted for Hoda Kotb.
If you watched her on the Today Show long enough, you felt as if you had been invited to the home yourself!
But alas, good things never last, and Kathie Lee has listed her 13,000 square foot abode for 100 million dollars. A steep price tag for sure. But honestly, even if you had the funds, would you make an offer?
I wouldn’t. And here’s why: the house needs updating. If you get past the fact that Gifford lived there and hosted various celebrities (including the Kardashians) it is plain and simply just a house, albeit a rather large one.
I am not sure if she is selling the home furnished, but as a buyer, I would ask her to remove the furnishings. I prefer contemporary, and her pieces range from straight up traditional to farm house chic. Certainly the well-heeled buyer will bring their own taste and (expensive) decorator to reimagine the place.
In this Realtor.com article, Kathie Lee and Frank put their own spin on the 1930’s mansion including the addition of a new wing with a movie theater, wine cellar, primary suite, and a home office, before Frank’s death in 2015.
Apparently, that is part of the reason for listing the house. Kathie Lee said the house felt empty, when it was once full of love and light.
According to the article, the couple paid just 7.8 million for the property 32 years ago. Even with all the renovations, Gifford is likely to make out with a nice chunk of change once the papers are signed.
I am no real estate expert…I just like to gawk. But I have a feeling Kathie Lee will have to drop the price in order to secure a buyer.
Sure, when you walk into the house, you can imagine Kathie Lee and Dolly Parton working on a song (which actually happened) at the piano. But you can visitors can also do that at Kathie’s new home in Franklin, Tennessee, which is much closer to Dolly’s home.
She apparently paid a more modest sum of 3.7 million in 2019. Gifford told City Lifestyle Magazine that she loves the area so much, the singer has bought several properties there:
"I do have three different places where I live. I have three homes and my brownstone is my main home here in Franklin. I bought a little farm three years ago, and that's my little getaway place. It's the only French farm in probably all of Tennessee. It's not a Tennessee farm. It's French. I love that. In honor of my mother and father who made me 18 kilometers outside of Paris many years ago when my father was on General Eisenhower's staff, in a little town called Orval. I named my farm Orval because it's precious. We made it all French, and I've been renovating it, and building onto it in honor of my mom and dad. I want my grandchildren and their grandchildren to know where they came from because my mother and father were the most beautiful, most decent, most godly people I've ever known. They'll just be a picture in a frame on a table if I don't tell their story."
The photos from Kathie Lee’s farm house backyard are breathtaking. Commenters suggested the lush landscape looks like something out of a film.
Now that is where I would spend my time. Honestly, her Connecticut mansion seems a little stuffy, where her farm house is a place you can let your hair down and relax. Now, all I need is an invite….
