Hey there, fellow writers and content creators!

You know that feeling when you stare at a blank screen, trying to come up with the perfect intro for your blog post?

It's like trying to find a needle in a haystack, or worse, trying to pick the perfect avocado at the grocery store (seriously, why are they always either too hard or too mushy?).

As ChatGPT's trusty sidekick, I've learned a thing or two about writing killer intros that grab readers' attention and keep them hooked. And I'm here to spill the beans on my secret formula.

In this article, I'll show you how I make ChatGPT write better blog article intros that are both informative and engaging.

Note: I made ChatGPT write the intro that you just read. Could you tell? What prompt makes it write in such a human tone? Let's find out.

Writing Article Intros

I won't get into the ChatGPT debate today. ChatGPT won't replace writers but rather, it will make the job of a writer a lot easier.

Why? Because without good prompts, ChatGPT won't give you the right style of writing that you want.

Guns and grenades did not replace the army of soldiers that nations flaunt today. They just made them more efficient. Hand these lethal weapons to someone who's not a soldier, and nothing good will come out of it. The same applies to ChatGPT.

Suppose you want to make ChatGPT write a blog intro about puppy food in a relaxed tone, and even add some humor to it. But you do want the intro to be SEO-optimized. Instead of simply commanding it to write an article intro, here's a better prompt idea:

Write an SEO-optimized article intro section for "Best Puppy Food" in a casual and humorous tone with a conversational style, using colloquial language, metaphors, and empathy.

This is the response I got:

Hey there, fellow pup parents!

As someone who's been in your shoes, I know how overwhelming it can be to find the perfect food for your furry bundle of joy. You want to make sure they're getting all the nutrients they need to grow up big and strong, without sacrificing taste or breaking the bank. It's like trying to find a needle in a haystack, am I right?

But fear not, my four-legged friends, because I've done the hard work for you. After countless hours of research, taste tests (no, seriously), and consulting with vets and nutritionists, I've compiled a list of the best puppy foods out there.

These foods aren't just healthy and nutritious, but they're also guaranteed to make your pup's tail wag with delight. Think of it like finding the perfect slice of pizza - it's got to be delicious, satisfying, and leave you feeling good inside.

So, whether you're the type of parent who prefers kibble, wet food, or a mix of both, I've got you covered. Let's dig in (pun intended) and find the perfect food for your furry best friend.

It already looks good to go, doesn't it?

If you don't want your article to start with "Hey there", (I don't, it's too generic), you can make small tweaks to match your writing personality.

Otherwise, ChatGPT produces a pretty good article intro, one that might have taken you longer to figure out.

Reverse-engineering for the most suitable article intro

I do understand that the prompt above may not be suitable for all. For example, if you are writing a serious health-related article, being funny may not be the best choice.

In that case, you can simply reverse-engineer the writing style of your competitors, or the best websites of your niche.

Let me show you an example.

In the health niche, healthline.com is one of the most authoritative sources of information.

As such, I opened an article titled "8 Ways to Keep Your Kidneys Healthy."

This was the article intro:

Your kidneys are fist-sized organs located at the bottom of your rib cage, on both sides of your spine. They perform several functions.

Most importantly, they filter waste products, excess water, and other impurities from your blood. These waste products are stored in your bladder and later expelled through urine.

In addition, your kidneys regulate pH, salt, and potassium levels in your body. They also produce hormones that regulate blood pressure and control the production of red blood cells.

Your kidneys are also responsible for activating a form of vitamin D that helps your body absorb calcium for building bones and regulating muscle function.

Maintaining kidney health is important to your overall health and general well-being. By keeping your kidneys healthy, your body will filter and expel waste properly and produce hormones to help your body function properly.

Here are some tips to help keep your kidneys healthy.

Now I pasted the intro on ChatGPT, and added this at the start:

Analyze the style and tone: [THE PREVIOUS TEXT]

ChatGPT gave me a long response for that, and I simply wrote: Summarize the style and tone in a sentence.

This was its response:

The style is informative and straightforward, and the tone is objective and neutral, with a focus on presenting factual information in a clear and accessible manner.

Now, the next time you want to have a ChatGPT-written intro for an article in the health niche, this is what you do:

Write me an article intro section about "Benefits of Keto Diet" in an informative and straightforward style and an objective and neutral tone, with a focus on presenting factual information in a clear and accessible manner.

This was the response:

The ketogenic, or keto, diet is a low-carb, high-fat diet that has gained popularity in recent years for its potential health benefits. By drastically reducing carbohydrate intake and increasing fat consumption, the body enters a state of ketosis, where it burns fat for energy instead of glucose.

Proponents of the keto diet claim that it can lead to weight loss, improved blood sugar control, increased energy levels, and reduced inflammation. However, as with any diet, there are potential risks and side effects to consider.

In this article, we will explore the benefits of the keto diet, including the science behind it, and provide insights into its potential drawbacks. We will also offer tips on how to follow the keto diet safely and effectively to help you make an informed decision about whether it's the right approach for you.

Notice how the tone is so suiting for a health-related article. Professional and authoritative.

So there you have it. That is how you get better article intros out of ChatGPT.

Remember, ChatGPT is still a machine. If you remember your computer classes from school, the nerds call it GIGO.

Garbage In, Garbage Out.

So, the better commands you give it, the better responses you'll get.

Bonus Tips

After I make ChatGPT produce an intro I like, I immediately make it write the conclusion section for me. Since ChatGPT remembers the conversation, I think it produces a more coherent article that way.

Furthermore, you can also ask ChatGPT for the list of subheadings for the article. You don't have to follow that, but I use it to see what things I was about to miss on my original article plan.

While we're at it, let me also tell you about content clusters (if you haven't heard of it.) Google loves authority, and one way to show it is to write multiple articles around the same topic.

For this, you can ask ChatGPT to suggest article ideas. For example, if I have written an article about "Investing in crypto for beginners," I will ask ChatGPT to suggest relevant content to add to my content cluster:

Suggest helpful and semantically relevant article topics for "Investing in crypto for beginners."

And boom, here's the list it gives you:

  1. What is cryptocurrency and how does it work?
  2. The history and evolution of cryptocurrencies
  3. Understanding blockchain technology
  4. Benefits and risks of investing in cryptocurrency
  5. How to buy and sell cryptocurrency
  6. Top cryptocurrencies to consider for investment
  7. Understanding market trends and analysis
  8. Developing a cryptocurrency investment strategy
  9. Security tips for storing and securing your cryptocurrency
  10. Tax implications of cryptocurrency investments

You don't have to write articles in all of the topics. Choose ones that you think will create value and your readers like to read.

There you go! I hope these ChatGPT prompts and tips will help you become a better writer.

ChatGPT is an awesome tool, and we'd be fools to not utilize the technology. It would be like our forefathers clinging on to horse-drawn carriages because riding an automotive felt like cheating.

Nonetheless, you do have to make a few tweaks and add your own style to improve and "own" the content that you write.
