Heaven and Hell
"Been on Fire"
Been on fire, it burns, it hurts . Flares of pain, to brand the skin.
There Is worse pain, I choose to forgive
Be on my own, so now I can live
No closure or justice, feels abuser’s gain
Impacted Babe, who then died In vain
A fierce parents instinct, protect and provide
Overprotecting, left waisted, no pride
Been here before, I did survive
Did the work, took years to strive
The mindful work, implored the science
Found it helps to find alliance
Discovery House and Mary Dover
Sheltered us and provided shoulder
Glass half empty, Glass half full
Water’s good, and that’s no “bull”
Resilience; a gift that’s not given, but earned
So don’t forget that you learned and you learned
Remember friends, who visit dreams
Who also died too soon it seems
Been on fire, it burns it hurts . Flares of pain, to brand the skin.
Finding balance, process...progress
But back and forth, this trauma mess
Relentless stalking, feels the same
As Slowly raping, now I’m to blame?!?!
Eighteen years a very long time
Again and again, this harassment crime
Must I re-live without a choice?
A healing heart that lost a voice
You broke In, you made me fear
How to protect, year after year
My two true blessings; my love, my life
For them I truly sacrifice
Been on fire, it burns, it hurts. Flares of pain, to brand the skin.
My body, heart, mind and soul
Just steal it all, like a silent "Troll"
Everything to save the seed
I even gave my sanity
Struggle and pain, don’t just go away
Triggers the memories, that rise again
The compounded slices, that cut like a knife
What gives people right to critique any life?
Don’t worry about those who go out of their way
Wielding attempts to slander and shame
Their brokenness Isn’t your problem this day
"One Less Thing", are the words we should say
Remember your strengths and just build on those
To balance the hurt, the pain, and the woes
Hold on to the strength, deep within yourself
You are a champion, and that is your wealth
Decide, commit, reciprocate
Rise above, and advocate
Achieve those goals and organize
Recognize and empathize
Build others up, and help them recover
We shall overcome, you, me and my brothers
Been on fire, it burns, it hurts . Flares of pain, to brand the skin.
True moral compass, North, strong and free
Live vulnerable and then let it be
Live current and present, be passionate
And remember to be compassionate
We’re trying to get to our version of Heaven
So forgive, understand, and don’t waist what your given
Build on your arts, indefinite
The learning will always be, infinite
Choose good, leave the rest
With intent, be your best
Humility, happiness, good or bad
Find thankfulness, kindness, and for that, be glad
Be “A Girl” who powers through
Do whatever, you have to do
Been on fire, it burns, it hurts . Flares of pain, to brand the skin.
Find inspiration that makes you smile
Don’t think too much it takes a while
Remember Love. That’s who you are,
And also thank your “Lucky Stars”,
for sharing all the love they are
The “Beautiful Liars” who reinvent
Believing that we are all heaven sent
Using their art to get it done
Living to show where you’re coming from
Love, Love, Love, that is so key
Personal space and set boundaries
Manners and Rules, our mama’s taught us well
If you cross those boundaries, you can put one through Hell
We are all flesh and bone, birthed through divine
None of us really, gets out alive
Been on fire, it burns, it hurts . Flares of pain, to brand the skin.
So LIVE your Life, keep it real and be free
Don’t worry that others, may judge you and me
Feel all the feels and remember to breathe
Sing it out loud, perhaps even scream
As long as the positive tops what’s beneath
Keep moving and breathing, just breathe, just breathe
Maybe reach out and connect, Namaste
Their music and laughter, reminds us to play
From beginning to end, simple math will be true
Positive plus negative, will spark you to move
Believing in miracles, keep moving on
Stay true to yourself, human rights can’t be wrong
Been on fire, it burns, it hurts . Flares of pain, to brand the skin.

Dana, this poem is so powerful! The structure adds to the emotion that it evoked from me. A favorite line of mine, "From beginning to end, simple math will be true. Positive plus negative will spark you to move." Even those who have not experienced trauma can relate to many parts of your poem.
