Four Hotels Across India and Nepal – A Traveler's Journal

I have always believed that where you stay shapes how you remember a place. A generic chain hotel could be anywhere. But a luxury tent on the Thar Desert dunes? A heritage hotel in the heart of Kathmandu? Those become part of the story. During recent travels across India and Nepal, I encountered four properties that refused to be forgettable. Here is what I found.

Jaisalmer – Pal Rajah Resort, Where the Desert Becomes Your Bedroom

There is something primal about sleeping in the desert. The silence is absolute. The stars are impossibly bright. And the sand seems to stretch to the edge of the earth.

Pal Rajah Resort is located 38 kilometers from Jaisalmer, deep inside the Thar Desert National Park. The approach is part of the adventure – a drive through dusty roads and scattered villages until the dunes rise ahead.

The resort is a collection of 20 luxury Swiss tents. I stayed in a Deluxe Tent with air conditioning, a marble bathroom, and a private patio that faced the dunes. The bed was comfortable, the linens were crisp, and the tent was surprisingly spacious. It felt less like camping and more like glamping – glamorous camping – at its best.

The resort organizes camel safaris and jeep rides across the dunes. I chose the camel ride at sunset. The guide led my camel up a high dune, and we sat in silence as the sky turned from gold to pink to deep purple. Back at the camp, a traditional Rajasthani cultural program featured musicians and dancers, followed by a dinner under the stars.

If you want to experience the magic of the Thar Desert without sleeping on the ground, Pal Rajah Resort is a memorable choice.

Kathmandu – Hotel Royal Singi, Where Tradition Meets Modern Comfort

Kathmandu is a city of contrasts. Ancient temples sit beside modern office buildings. The chaos of Thamel gives way to the calm of Durbar Marg.

Hotel Royal Singi is located in the heart of the city, adjacent to Durbar Marg and a ten‑minute walk from Thamel. The hotel blends traditional Nepali design elements with modern amenities.

My room was a Deluxe Room – spacious, clean, with a comfortable bed and a view of the city. The room included a refrigerator, an in‑room safe, complimentary coffee and tea, and a flat‑screen TV. The bathroom was modern and well‑stocked.

The hotel's dining options were impressive. I had breakfast at "the BLVD" – a buffet with a wide range of options, including Indian, Continental, and Nepali dishes. In the evening, I enjoyed a drink at Bhanjyang Bar before exploring the courtyard terrace, a quiet space with garden views.

What stood out was the service. The staff were attentive without being intrusive. They arranged a taxi to the airport and provided recommendations for local sightseeing. The location was perfect – close enough to the action but quiet enough for rest.

For travelers who want comfort and convenience in Kathmandu, Hotel Royal Singi is a solid choice.

New Delhi – Hotel GTC & Lounge, A Business Hub in South Delhi

Delhi can be overwhelming. The traffic is relentless, the crowds are thick, and the distances are vast. A hotel with a strategic location is essential.

Hotel GTC & Lounge is located in Greater Kailash Part II, one of South Delhi's most secure and upscale neighborhoods. The hotel has been operating here for over a decade, serving business travelers and event organizers.

The property has 23 rooms. I stayed in a Deluxe Room – 225 square feet, with a comfortable bed, air conditioning, and a flat‑screen TV. The room was clean and functional. Complimentary breakfast was included.

What impressed me was the hotel's business facilities. The conference room and 100‑pax banquet hall make it suitable for corporate events. The open‑air restaurant provides a pleasant setting for meals.

The location is convenient. G.K. M‑Block Market, Select City Walk Mall, and Nehru Place Market are within a five‑minute drive. The Lotus Temple is the closest landmark.

For business travelers and event planners, Hotel GTC & Lounge offers practical, functional accommodation in a prime South Delhi location.

Amritsar – InnDia Amritsar, A Boutique Hostel with Heart

Amritsar is a city of spirituality and hospitality. The Golden Temple welcomes all visitors with free meals and open doors. It seemed fitting to choose accommodation that mirrored that spirit.

InnDia Amritsar is a boutique hostel located on Fatehgarh Churian Road, about 4.6 kilometers from the Golden Temple. The property is family‑run, converted from a two‑story family home.

I stayed in a private room with an en suite bathroom. The room was clean, simple, and comfortable. The hostel offers both private rooms and dormitories, making it suitable for solo travelers and groups alike.

The common areas are the heart of the hostel. The living room has a movie area and a small library. The kitchen is fully equipped for guests who want to cook. Free breakfast and free laundry are included.

The hostel organizes regular social events – food tours, social nights, movie nights. I joined a food tour and discovered local specialties that I would not have found on my own.

Guest reviews rate the hostel highly for cleanliness (4.7), service (4.5), and value (4.8). It is budget‑friendly, with dorm beds starting at 500 rupees and private rooms at 1,600 rupees.

For solo travelers and backpackers, InnDia Amritsar offers a warm, social, and affordable base.
