Dakota Johnson’s Iconic Mid Century Modern House Listed for Six Million Minus the Limes!

This viral 2020 house tour featured Dakota’s lime green kitchen. Viewers at the time couldn’t get enough of her eclectic taste. According to Architectural Digest, the Fifty Shades of Gray star paid 3.5 million in 2016 for the 3200 square foot abode.

Except for the small kitchen, I love this house. It is whimsical and cozy, much less pretentious than a lot of actors’ houses.

Still, I can’t see parting with six million for the home. I don’t mean to harp, but the almost galley-type kitchen is a deal-breaker for me.

Unless you can find a way to open it up and expand the space, I think six million is a little rich. Buyers in that price range expect more, even in L.A. Or should I say, especially in L.A.

During her 2020 interview with Architectural Digest, Dakota says she moved to the home from New York City. So, I suppose she was used to small kitchens and felt right at home in the mid century modern dwelling.

Johnson proclaimed that this was her forever home. Apparently not. The AD article hinted that she was moving into a larger 3500 square foot home in Los Angeles’ Outpost neighborhood.

I wonder if she will miss her romantic lap pool, which is integrated into the scenery rather than the other way around. Sometimes pools look like they were simply slapped onto the property. This one tastefully adorns the landscape. I imagine you feel like you are one with nature as you swim laps.

Dakota mentioned that she had “fights were her neighbor” concerning the bamboo which takes up most of the perimeter of the property. I absolutely love the plant’s vibe. We included it in our Midwest garden and our neighbors complained as well.

Keep up the good fight, Dakota, the bamboo is worth it! Problem is, once you plant it, it grows and spreads very fast. As we discovered, even in cold climates.

She can always transplant some of the bamboo into her new Hollywood Hills garden. According to this article the actor paid a little over five million for her new digs:

“In a 3,550-square-foot space, the 1950s Mediterranean-style mansion includes three bedrooms and three and a half bathrooms. Furthermore, it has a guest room with an attached bathroom as well. Reportedly, the property has good ventilation, with plenty of sunlight and organic tiles.

With wooden beams on the ceilings, the master bedroom includes a fireplace and a well-equipped washroom with a bathtub and double shower. Aside from this, Johnson’s new home will also come with an outdoor swimming pool, accompanied by an outdoor kitchen and an olive grove.”

Maybe the ”Materialists” star was looking for a new start after breaking up with singer Chris Martin. Or maybe she simply wanted a larger yard so she can expand that olive grove.

The AD interview in which Johnson declared her devotion to limes went viral after she admitted later on that she really doesn’t like limes at all.

Dakota’s new house in the Hollywood Hills might also offer a better view since many of the homes there allow you to see the lights of Los Angeles perched way above the city.

Now, that I could get used to. And rubbing shoulders with all the A-list Hollywood celebs wouldn’t be bad either. I mean, you’re likely to run into them while shopping at the Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s nearby, right?

Or do I have an illusion about what life is like living in L.A. that is completely delusional? I don’t think I will ever know. We’re pretty set here in Florida.

Some people call our state the poor man’s California. I’ll take it. Because I am pretty sure if you transplanted either one of Dakota’s houses to Southwest Florida, they would cost less here.
