Reportedly, Prince Andrew's former wife Sarah Ferguson, 62, is a “prime target” for the bosses of the ABC show. According to insiders, this could be the ideal opportunity for "Dancing With the Stars" to bounce back from a recent rating dip.

Sarah Ferguson on 'Dancing With the Stars?'

Reportedly, the Duchess of York has previously turned down offers from the UK show, "Strictly Come Dancing." However, according to a source, she always carefully “considers” US offers.

Meanwhile, the news comes as her ex-husband Prince Andrew demands a jury trial in the ongoing case with Virginia Giuffre. The prince continues to deny allegations that he sexually assaulted Giuffre when she was 17.

Sarah Ferguson would be protected from media questions

Despite the ongoing scandal, Fergie is considered “a list name” for the Fall series and could reportedly attract a salary close to one million dollars. In the meanwhile, she would be protected from any questions relating to the legal case.

As reported by The Sun, ABC and BBC Studios hope to “up the talent level” on Dancing With the Stars to boost the declining ratings of recent seasons. According to the insider, Sarah Ferguson would be of “great interest” given all that is happening with Prince Andrew. However, the source did add that ABC would do its best to protect Fergie from any media questions relating to the disgraced royal.

The source pointed out that ABC’s skilled media and production team have previously protected famous contestants from family scandals. This famously includes Lori Loughlin’s daughter, Olivia Jade. However, they did add that naturally, the fact that Prince Andrew is in the news right now would make it fascinating for viewers.

'Dancing With the Stars' seeking major household names

In the meantime, senior executives from ABC Studios in Los Angeles have been charged with finding “at least one or ideally two major household names that fascinate fans.” In fact, the source said they have been requested to “think big” and lure “an Oscar, Emmy or Grammy-winning star.” Doing so would be sure to make headlines on and off the screen.

Meanwhile, "Dancing With the Stars" has yet to be recommissioned. However, the production team expects season 31 to happen, as ABC reportedly still makes significant profits from the show, even with low ratings.

Duchess of York has not been asked yet

Meanwhile, the Sun quotes a source close to Fergie, who says she hasn’t yet been approached about the show. The source said the Duchess has previously been asked to star on "Strictly Come Dancing" in the UK but has always turned it down.

However, back in 2006, Sarah Ferguson reportedly claimed she would like to appear on "Dancing With the Stars." Fergie told Inside Edition, “I'd quite like to go on 'Dancing With the Stars.'" She added that she would like them to teach her the tango.

Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew

The Duke and Duchess of York were divorced in 1996 after a ten-year marriage, but have reportedly remained close friends. As for Prince Andrew, a trial date has been penciled in for the end of 2022, possibly between September and December.

The royal is being sued by Virginia Giuffre, who claims she was trafficked by convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell and Jeffrey Epstein. She alleges that she was forced to have intimate relations with Prince Andrew in London at the age of 17. Meanwhile, Prince Andrew continues to deny the allegations, despite damning photographs taken at one of Epstein's homes.
