India's accomplishment follows closely after Russia's Luna-25, which aimed to explore a lunar area but unfortunately entered an uncontrolled orbit and crashed. This incident would have marked Russia's first successful lunar landing in 47 years. Russia's state-controlled space agency, Roscosmos, attributed the failure to a lack of expertise resulting from the prolonged pause in lunar exploration following the last Soviet lunar mission in 1976.

Actively engaged in space exploration since the 1960s, India has been responsible for launching satellites for its own purposes and on behalf of other nations. Additionally, India achieved a successful orbiter insertion around Mars in 2014. The country is now preparing for its most ambitious mission to date: collaborating with the United States on a mission to the International Space Station scheduled for the upcoming year.
